ye, according to a mate of ine, Apple actually make iPods and such to have a lifetime of little more than a year when your warranty runs out so you have to pay for a repair or buy another

I will not. Sony Ericsson fones are "well established" in my country while iPhone seems to be "something for US and Europe only". At least till the beginning of 2008. Moreover, W960 looks so promising.

Hey guys, I think we should thank both sithcentz and brendon for their input which are almost mini reviews from actual users for a change.

Its no use being blinkered at this stage as the iPhone will offer plenty for some people and will be a royal pain in the ass for others.

Multitasking sounds tedious but the Internet experience is wonderful on the iPhone. The voicemail feature is great, which will be especially useful for people with hectic social lives but the 2.0mp cam doesn't sound very capable, so its all about whats important to you.

Locked in a two year contract though,

i may get one but i prefer to wait till the end of this year or next year. i want to try something different and i've played with one at an apple yesterday. it's obvious that most americans will get the phone. hey if it's a british company that made the iphone for example won't those brits line up for it too?

love your own and buy your own products right? where is your nationalism countrymen?

From Mobileburn review of the iPhone

"I am quite disappointed with the iPhone's Bluetooth support. The iPhone can only be used with headsets and car kits or speakerphones. Bluetooth cannot be used for sharing photos, sending contacts, or anything like that, nor can the iPhone be used as a Bluetooth modem."

the iphone is a big success but a bigger failure i think. it doesnt even perform at par with the "normal" phones around. so much for the PHONE side of that ipod. it lacks voice dialling and MMS. and so on and so forth. theres A LOT missing oklahoma! so sad for a supposed to be revolutionary product.. ;-(

I think if you read brendon's mini review you see what I am talking about. There is no doubt that it looks nice, and the menus are new and different. I think that makes many people fall in love with it because it is so different. But really when you look at it, just how much "better" or "intuitive" are the menus? Well lets compare the Iphone with say...the w800i.

#of button presses it takes to do (x) task...
Bring up the music player - 1 for both phones
Bring up texting - 1 for both phones
Bring up internet - 1 for both phones
Bring up the camera - 1 for both phones

So really, the only difference in UI's on the phones is looks. Yes, the Iphone has new menus and they look nicer, but SE phones are coming along in that dept. with the more flash based themes. I think once you are around the phone for a while the "newness" will wear off like it does for all phones. But then I bring you back to the point about the little things mattering. If I have an Iphone I can't change anything about the phone, but if I were to get bored of my themes and menus on my SE phone I can go download literally hundreds of themes made by other people over the net or make my own.

It's the little things like that you will notice about the Iphone but only after the "new phone shine" wears off.

thanks goldenface, much appreciated...i knew i'd get some serious backlash for jumping ship. i simply wanted to quell the rumors and badmouthing and focus on the positive, i'm not some mac freak preaching the gospel! in fact, i've never even bought an ipod just out out pure protest i promise all of you who get your hands it, you'll freak out when you finally play with it. it's simply amazing and so much FUN (isn't that what these devices should be about?!)...check out these four video tutorials to all of you who haven't seen them. i wish SE would produce stuff like this versus those limited flash demos. apple really invested some serious time producing these videos and i think it shows:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/usingiphone/guidedtour_small.html

sambouka has a good point about the bluetooth limitations. you can only pair headsets and run through your car's system if bluetooth enabled, mine is and it works great. i wanted to transfer my 200 or so contacts from my K790a to iPhone via bluetooth and found out the hard way you can't, it's only possible through outlook and i don't have it. so i spent two hours manually typing in the 200 contacts to the iPhone! argh, what a headache fortunately it's so dang easy to do though, and it also allowed me to get better at (practice) the keypad and UI.

we heard a nasty rumor this week that the iPhone will only take about 350 charges (i.e. a full year), and since the battery is not user replaceable, you have to send the phone to apple or a nearest apple store to replace it. and i think it costs about $80 to do so! terrible terrible terrible. imagine how many iphones apple will have to service a year from now! millions all at once!!

btw, i forgot to mention how cool the yahoo mail push email is...it works just like blackberries do. you don't have to access the safari brower, everything just comes up on a separate app. very very convenient! love it.

another cool thing about the safari browser is that you can have several different web pages up at once, you simply flick your finger to "fan" through them, very nice addition! you can also block pop-ups which i think is hilarious, just shows you how real the web surfing experience is on this thing. i wonder if viruses will soon be developed (if they haven't already)?

some of you had questions re: customization...well we've heard that apple will soon release a software update that will allow users to customize to their hearts delight. you may have noticed that the 12 apps on the home screen of the iPhone have a clear/black row toward the bottom...this might indicate room for more apps/widgets. hope so

i'll end on price...people have suggested that $499 (4GB) and $599 (8GB) are steep, but look at what you get! i spent $450 on my K790a and the P series phones all run about $800-900 when they're released, so the iPhone price isn't that bad compared to others (Nokia included).
