@W950i owners...
Hi... I noticed that the W950 doedn't let me access the menu even in FLIGHT MODE if the SIM card is NOT present. Screen shows "Insert SIM".
Ideally, as a smartphone it should boot up even without a sim.
Have you noticed this or anything different ?

@all
when reporting problems could you say if you are using a SIM free or network W950 and the FW version. I myself have had no problems with my O2 W950 FW version R1B01.

Bought my W950i 10 days ago in o2 shop for £239.99 on online 200 + 100 bonus minutes for £15 per month on renewal. Return it back to the shop a week later cause retention can offer the phone for £99.99 only. What a hugh difference. Waiting for the delivery now! |

Can someone with O2 please confirm whether they actually do have the RSS application. |

Ok more info on battery life.
The phone was fully charged when I left work last night. My journey home took maybe 30 minutes during which I listened to the walkman.
I had one phone call in the evening which i missed and the caller left a message, so I had a total of four missed calls and a text message when I got to my phone this morning once the voicemail system had finished harassing me.
The phone had enough power this morning for only 10 minutes of MP3 play in flight mode.
That just can't be right.
Either something isn't switching down properly (a bug) or the battery life is shocking (a fault).
And is someone can confirm that they have RSS on the O2 service it would be good to know... |

@Buttoneer
you battery is faulty!
I listened to over 1.5hrs of music (via BT), did some 15 mins of PIM, sync with outlook a few times, installed some apps and had the phone on standby for 48hrs and the battery was around 35% charge left. |

Further testing necessary - may be settings that left the phone 'on' when it notified of the messages.
How about the RSS? |

I agree... My W950i is lasting days between charges with normal phone, music, and radio usage. BTW, my W950 came with a 950 mAh battery whereas the specs in the user manual claim that it should only have a 900mAh. What version of the battery does your W950i have? Maybe that's the difference.
As for the RSS feeds... My unbranded W950 has the RSS feeds application and it works just great (I use it every day). Thus, if you don't have it, then it's most certianly is an O2 branding issue going on there. |

@OfficeMaven
Many thanks for the info re the RSS feeds although it makes no sense you would of thought these Networks would like you racking up Data usage and charges. Maybe there trying to save you money? very strange IMO.

Not necessarily a bug, but they may have possibly chosen to omit it from their (initial) firmware version?
Can someone with a (presumably) O2 branded handset post their firmware versions with the CDA too?
I've checked Orange and 3 handsets, both had different CDA to my ungranded handset. |

Hey guys.
So i have a sim free W950i now, such a beautiful phone.
Ive noticed one or two things with it.
I enjoy lots of dance albums where having gapless playback is quite important to me, so far the w950i is quite disapointing in not supporting gapless playback.
The supplied headphones are nice and i love having the remote control, however i can't help but think that my w800i headphones were slightly better, also i don't think any of the supplied foam heads suit my ears, so i may substitute them for my other sony headphones.
I have my 950 set to auto lock while not being used, unlocking the phone while playing music sends a nasty click down the headhones (i haven't tried without the headphones on yet).
my phones firmware is R9C001.
I love this phone and my only problem with it is deciding what music to fill it with (roll on 30gb flash memory phones). hopefully my only 2 real problems with it will be fixed in a firmware.
One nice thing i discovered this morning when transferring some music. an album i had in WMA was re transcoded at a great bitrate (from what i can tell) of MP3 using disc2phone. that was very nice but i do hope they can get WMA support on there as standard. I'm just glad it wasn't AAC (or whatever)
I'll call you on my W950i! |
