Since Nokia is still the market leader they can not afford to make much mistakes so in my opinion they are very conservative in their designs. They only put a new design to the market if they are sure there is demand (= if another brand has succes with it).

Their more experimental phones like the lipstick one can not be taken really serious, they are only there to create the image of Nokia as innovative designer. Which they wouldn't need to to if they actually were innovative.

Only real innovators are SE and Motorola.

If you really think it's idiotic tell me what part of it you do not agree with.

A lot of brands put products into the market that they are sure of they will never sell enough but they need it for their image.

Well I'd consider the Nokia Communicator series innovative. Just about every form of communication in 1 mobile device, I remember when the 9000i was released on orange in the uk in 1998. It was amazing for its time and there was no other mobile phone at that time that could do half the things it could. Nokia still make some good phones or they'd have gone bust by now, and lets face it there isn't alot of choice in form factor when it comes to making a phone.
