@Cycovision, this new vao with the centrino 2Ghz M760 processor, 13.3" xblack screen, 80gb SATA drive, +/- dvd writer, wifi, BT etc etc gives me easily more than 3 hours and I'm well impressed, the best battery life I have had from a vaio. Intel really have done a good job with these processors for laptops and the power saving capabilities are excellent and the BA lounges I visit every week seem to be very sparse with power outlets so I have to rely on the battery alot. can't be bothered with extended batteries though and anyway, they aint cheap!

I'm using the wlan on the vaio all the time in the lounges. I connect with BT openzone in UK and t-online (like t-mobile) here in Germany, and yeah, I get about 2 to 2 1/2 hours but thats not a prob unless the plane is delayed

Yup, I can't argue with that 3 hours plus is excellent! I suppose people should just be wary of cheaper models since, of course, there's plenty of other factors involved such as motherboard, chipset, integrated peripherals, battery type etc.
I had one guy in the shop with a brand new Packard Bell lappy (bought from PC World) with Centrino complaining that the battery only lasted for just over an hour or so with minimal usage. After thorough testing and a lot of research, we had to tell him 'Sorry mate, that's just the way it is'

No the IBM Thinkpads are very good and robust. For instance, the X31 you can actually stand on and also wiggle the screen without damaging it. Nice compact size, the only drawback is that the dvd drive is in the docker.
...I used to use one.

Well, we get a few very old IBM thinkpads in the shop every now and then so judging by the fact that they're still working, I guess they can't be that bad
Personally, I can't comment on newer IBM lappies for the simple reason that I haven't really got any experience of them.

No, my employer gives interest free IT loans of a 1000 quid and I used it to buy a gps. I had to spend the rest of the cheque seeing as you do not get any change back, so I bought it and some other stuff.
Its also nice to use with my digital camera as you simply take out the CF card and insert it in the ipaq then you can view the photos better when on the fly, but mostly I use it as a glorified address book/calendar and to view avantgo webpages when bored.

I had the iPAQ 4700 for a few months but never concidered it a laptop replacement. While the virtual keyboard is ok and transcriber etc and even the spb full screen virtual keyboard is pretty good you just are limited by not having a good size keyboard to touch type. for me there was never a point in getting one of those external keyboards because that doubles the size of your package.
the 4700 was a great PDA though and excellent for straight forward wifi browsing and I only got rid of it when I got the i-mate JAM. Still miss that fantastic 4" screen though

I have 4 Dells:
D600 - currently use
CPX - on home network, used as storage.
CPI x2 - used to weigh down the floor
They have all done me proud.

Oops nearly forgot: (off topic but still) I also view movies on my ipaq. I bought this software called DVD to PocketPC which converts a dvd movie to fit on a 128 or 256mb SD card and the picture quality is quite good. Nice to keep yourself entertained on a train especially in rush hour when conditions are cramped.
