Yeah, I don't mind you lot sharing your opinions. I see it like this: I like using my k700i to store videos and music but also like to use it for texting or calling, wheras a lot of you seem to just use mobiles to communicate, which is completely fine (seeing as though thats what they're for).

I was only asking if there was a way in which i could protect my files and used me wanting to hide my porn as an example. I thought a lot of people could relate to it, afterall no-one wants their stuff looked through. So I hope y'all don't just think I'm some crazy porn addict lol. These forums look great btw, thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce my self. Hi all

Yeah, Hi Rad. You would think that you could put locks on your folders! Other than that store stuff using innocuous names and obviously don't leave your phone around.

If you are that worried about your files, try http://www.symbianware.com/pr[....]id=powerprotect_uiq&pl=se_p910

Google brought up a few other links as well.

Also in the light of 2Gig memory duos being available it is a consideration that will need addressing by SE as people start using the non comms part of the phone, i.e. storing word files and spreadsheets from work on the memory sticks, using quick office for 'on the go' editing of files whilst in transit, after all who takes any notice of people using a phone, they just think your texting when you may be actually working on a spreadsheet or business document.

If you dont want people to be able to play your sensitive video files rename them to something inconspicuous (like a song / code name) and rename the extension to .mp3 instead if .3gp or .mp4 (or whatever the real extension of you vids are, dont have SE phone at mo so cant remember wht file type vids they play now).

This way when you girlfriend is checking your phone she will either not realise its porn, thinking its an mp3, and if she is still suspicious enough to check anyway the video wont play due to having the wrong file extension.

Then, when you have a 'private moment' simply rename the file by changing the file extension back to .3gp and hey presto the porn magically appears

you cant change the file extension on the phone (k700) ! :-/ The only way to change the extension is while its on the PC itself so scratch that technique.

@the_poet - that is only for symbian phone which a k700 is not

@k4m!k4ze

Sorry - didnt realise SE lock down file extensions when renaming files. Out of interest do they display them on the phone?

you can get info about the kind of file by selecting more-> info after highlighting the file but thats not necessary, each type of file has a unique icon which specifies the kind of file it is (except for unsupported file formats)
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence of your attempt !!

Can't say about other files but do try this for pictures... Works for me..

All pictures you don't want seen can be put in a folder and name the folder with a really unattractive name such as documents etc and add 4-8 files in the folder with real boring content, people playing with your phone generally don't go futhur than 4 files if they see the content boring.

The trick is to have many folders AND to put the boring files last in the folder so they appear first in the folder...

TRY and Let me know....

I remember reading somewhere that there is a system whereby if your phone goes missing or you suspect it has been taken, then you dial a number and the phone and sim are automatically locked.

Cant remember where I heard/read that though
