I am using Airtel mobile office GPRS (Edge??) connection on Palm Treo 650 which supports edge connections. The max speed I am getting is 43KBPS and when I call the customer support, they confirmed that its the max speed allowed and the technical people are working to increase the speeds. I belived that they intentionally kept the upper limit to 43kbps. The speeds are comparable to dial-up, but no way close to the DSL connections. So if you are using dial-up now and have a edge phone, then may be its a good deal. But mobility is not a concern, may be 64kbps or 128 kbps unlimited DSL access on landline from Airtel a better option for browsing net. |

@viviek....Orange in Mumbai offers 2 levels of GPRS
1) Basic GPRS....which gives you only wap access...MMS is free with that...Costs 99/-
2) Advanced GPRS ( They call it APN service)...Full web access...
Prepaid--Rs 199/- rental + 50 paise for every 10kb of data transfer
Postpaid--Rs 499/- 100 mb data transfer free...50 ps for every 10 kb after that...
My advice....don't even venture anywhere near Option 2. Get Airtel...pay a flat 199/- and click away..

I am all but getting lost in the technical mumbo-jimbo !
Turns out , for every call to the customer care in air tel , they provide you with a different answer everytime for the same question. )
Right , now i have asked those people to activate this service which allows me to access ALL wap site ( or so they say) on my phone , and they shall have Rs.99 of my fathers hard earned money.
Now i go ask them again about the options i have to access internet on my computer their GPRS , they ask me for Rs.600 (Mobile Office).
And i think that pretty much settles it.
1. Now the one question : Is there a way i can access the internet with the current (Rs.99) plan i have opted for ?
Scared of being scowled at , i have checked the archives , it has some information on tricks played by certain members on the providers...but i found then less helpfull to my query.
And Coimbatore ESATO'eans , here i am , a Coimbatorean. |
