What GSM data platform do you use the most: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS? |

We have a CDMA2000 1x network here now offering data cards allowing you to access data/internet on their platform in connectivity with your laptop. Unfortunately, the acquisition cost is on the high end. Would have loved to explore that.

To a large extent, pricing influences how well people take up data. MTN-nigeria offered WAP over CSD for years (at the regular exhorbitant voice tarriffs) and people just kept away. Recently, Glo introduced WAP over GPRS at a much more comfortable price and people use it everyday! As a matter of fact, GPRS and lower data costs are 2 strong reasons lots of people I know cross-over to Glo. I did too.

Unlimited GPRS for $5 per month is heaven. That's a dream here in Nigeria seeing we have only one GPRS network. Only vibrant competition can produce that kind of tariff.

we don't have EDGE or UMTS here. EDGE will never come here.
there's also HSCSD here but not many people know that.

GPRS on one network, and sometimes CSD (dial-up) on another network.
What I really want is an unlimited monthly GPRS plan, just like what Airtel India offers. Per-kb charging is good only for those who use GPRS very rarely. |
