All big german distributors have confirmed today that they will send out the Sony Ericsson P800 to the shops into week 29 (15th to 21st July). The argument for that is the release of the Nokia 7650 next week, so SE decided to release the P800 earlier than planned.

Question then is; Have SE already built in the Memory Stick slot into these??
Or is this a shipment with P800´s wihtout it, just to get them out there to compete with 7650??
I wonder!? |

I can guarantee you all that the P800 will NOT BE RELEASED during July. Anyone saying other things are full of BS.

Yeah, the release-date is set for late-December too here in Sweden. At least that's what's been written in all the major newspapers. It is not necessarily a good thing to move forward the release-date, the first SW could be full of bugs if decideds to rush through anything.
It isn't likely either since SonyEricsson just spent a lot of money on advertisements (tv, billboards and so on) promoting T68i. It would be a marketing and technological mistake to move forward the already decided December release-date.

I wouldn´t bet money on a December release!
As late as yesterday I checked (pre-ordered a P800) at our "internal" phone shop here at Ericsson, and the information they had was Q3 (i.e. between July-October).
Just my two cents...

it does make sense to release the P800 ASAP. SE is biting BIG chunks off Nokia's market share since the extremely successful launch of the T68m/i. Nokia will probably get everything back with their new 7650 and then it's back to square one. the lead time from Jul to Dec is a loooong 5 months .... just imagine how much there is to lose as SE has absolutely nothing to counter during this time (the pathetic new T series has nothing more to offer) with Nokia lining up the 7210 and 6610, both with 4096 colors, to be released Q3. panasonic and samsung will also be releasing their latest color screen phone during that time. MMS is coming fast and furious and 256 colors just don't cut it.
my guess is SE might just release 1 version without the memory stick slot soon n the memory stick ver end of the year (just like wat they did with the T68m & i). |

I have to say I tend to trust the later release dates, simply because I know someone who works for Symbian, specifically on the P800, and they are still refining the Epoc r7 OS as I write. Incidentally, the version they had didn't have the memory stick slot. |

I'd recon it's still gonna be around Sept.
All the sources are saying Q3-2002 and that time scale means that they can still get a bit of the nokia cake but have enough time to finish off any bugs.
December would be too late and lots of ppl would have gone for the Nokia option before then. |

I was told by an official source (SE sales person) that here in Hungary they will release P800 around September. He could not tell the exact price but it is going to be around €800.
I had the P800 in my hands for about a hour. It was great but I still don't like the keypad! It would be better if it was the same solution as they had in R380. I had the feeling that the keypad is like a toy without any function it's just for the design! You can't feel this on the pictures but it's very bad in live.
