I think its a terrible idea and totally defeats the point of having moderators.

Also its very easy for one person to say they don't like this or that and for all their "followers" or "mates" to agree and thus make a choice not based on the topic or person in question but based on mateship.

I think the current (and usual method on forums) of moderation is all that is required and the moderators will take note and look closely at any complaints given to them in an unbiased, factual and impartial manner.

certainly the day I stop doing that will be the day I'll be happy for members to compain to laffen about me.

I really don't think this issue is big enough to warrant such a topic anyway is it? or have I missed something? I assume some happening has caused this topic to be raised?

vote when and on what though???

Everything? Not doable
Decided items? Who gets to decide then?

And why? And where? Do we get to vote if political threads get to stay? Coz it's irrelevant seing as this is still a phones forum. Or we vote on whether or not the 'tips & tricks for T68' is still needed??

I just don;t see the use of it

I believe the phrase you are looking for is 'nouveau veterans', as far as I can see it isn't the older members who are participating in the behaviour you describe.

@Vlamm

I still assume that it is a mobile phone forum, sometimes.

@masseur

This topic is obviously one, which is dividing people, some favour it, others oppose it. I think the very fact fact that some do favour it shows that perhaps there is something at work on Esato, which some members are not happy with.

Before anyone starts writing letters to Points of View, I am not criticising masseur or any of the other moderators, in fact I think they all do sterling work. There is a difference between saying that the current system is not working and asking for a way, in which members can express their opinions in a focused manner when they feel that a moderator's decision is not in the best interests of Esato. I realise that Easto is not a democracy, but I don't think it is unreasonable or rediculous for members to be allowed to have a voice to express their collective opinion too.

I also realise that this idea is very unlikely to be approved, but I thought I would voice my support for an idea, which I think, rather than providing an opportunity to criticise the moderators or each other, would add something to Esato.

As I recall, Axxxr, you took a lot of flack yourself when you first started posting your news stories on here, how would you feel if a load of people voted for your posts to be sent to garbage?

If the majority voted for my posts to be deleted or sent to garbage i would be more than happy with that decision,Because it will be the choice of the majority of esato members. [addsig]

@scotsboyuk

Absolutely, I don't mean to offend anybody and I wasn't suggesting that all Esato users are unfreindly or such like, be they veterans or not.

So let's forget voting systems and such like, just keep it as it is and let Masseur and co. do the hard work???

axxxr, so in theory... if a handful of membersform a cartel and gang up against a certain person and decice to have the so called "angry mob" mentality, they can cause a lot of damage to a person's views/posts.
or it could be the the other way round as well, where the mods decide to delete a thread/posts and the cartel will oppose it and get the votes it requires.
it does sound pretty far fetched, but it might be reality one day.

Maybe we should all vote on if this thread should be cancelled!

This voting method could be used for 'debateable' threads the mods aren't sure about, not as either a replacement to them or a way of vetting all threads.

There could be a problem though if a certain 'gang' of members started ganging up on someone, there needs to be a system that stops that.

What do you mean by gang members,Cartel?..You think esato has been taken over by the mafia or the yakuza? Even though their are few shallow people in esato..I think the majority of members on esato are much more sensible than that.They will vote responsibly and not "gang up" as you put it..However i think we can make the voting system work if implemented correctly. I agree with Sammy_boy, it could be used as a means of resolving disputes. If we try it and it doesn't work, we can always stop using it.

@axxxr how will you know we have quorum for a decision? I think Aristotel said: "the only thing worse than democraty is tyranny."

@blayv

I don't think the purpose of this thread was to enter into a philosophical debate about the nature of democracy through the ages.

Incidentally, Churchill said that "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried."

I think teh point of having moderators has to be that they decide what to do with threads and consult eachother and the admin in cases of doubt. I think a popular vote or referendum would only add to the confusion and besides... this is an internet forum. how big a deal is it really when a thread is deleted/moved/locked?

@Vlamm

It is a tremendous deal to someone like myself, who has absolutely no life outside of Esato; as you well know!
