Ericsson have a tradition of making "all wether" model like R250, R310,
so I don't see reason why SE shouldn't continue...

Maybe because the demand is not enough and SE is a young company and therefore they prefer to make a good image of themselves with high demand phones, sound more logical don't you think

Guys many of you are looking at the situation from your perspective and how YOU would like SE to be. But the truth is that SE is managed and run by proven proffessionals like Miles Flint who have a much greater view and understanding of the market than anybody in this forum.
If any of you people had been reading any of the press interviews that several key personalities like Wareby, Flint and the now ex-SE Katsumi Ihara, you would have realised that for the past year SE has been trying to fill gaps in its 2003 product portfolio and make the supply chain as efficient as possible. With the models launched this year, SE has more than enough models for a company of its size for the mid and hign end categories. This has been stressed by SE which has repeatedly stated that they want a distinctive product line and not a mass market one. They do not want to flood the market with a SE phone for every single taste and turn SE into a Hyiundai. They want products that are distinguishable by their SE design and features.
The low end now has two good models (t230, j200) the mid end has SE's big hope (k500) and the mid/high level has the k700. Furthermore SE has a successful smartphone series (p-series) and a very strong 3G phone in the V800.
All these show SE's strenght in new competitve products, so it can also use its older products (t630, t100, z200, z600) to fill in the gaps for anybody that is not interested in the latest offerings.
Personally i feel that SE is going from strength to strength and is gradually building a strong brand name (which is SE's MAIN TARGET). SE has not followed nokia's strategy of releasing 40 phones a year because firstly it does not have the capacity to release so many phones in large quantities and secondly because it is focused on building brand awareness, NOT gaining marketshare. In this manner SE will make more profits, which will make it easier to compete on a higher scale with big rivals like Nokia.

i strongly don't agree. it wouldn't be the first CEO that has got alot of experience that "loses it".
the SE portfolio has grown when you look at the year 2003. but its still not near the portfolio isn't year the portfolio ericsson had before SE was created.
there is more then enough demand for several types of phones. sure its not necessary to really have every possible phone in the portfolio but a few would be great, of maby combining them. making all new SE phones also weather proof (while keeping a good design, inovation technology and all the rest).
the J200 isn't a good low end phone. it doesn't support MMS, sure not everybody uses it, but if you have it, more people could give it a try.
big hope for the K500, yes they have, but in my eyes its a big flop, as is there K700, they though it would sell even more then the T610, they are so wrong.
SE can lauch/produce much more phones, sony and ericsson have enough factory space to produce.
40 isn't indeed what i would lauch. i know SE will lauch +8 phones (excl japan), imo i would find 15 a better number.
i know from UCSE that the next Pxxx won't be 3G, i know alot of people will be disapointed, but i can understand it, cause no brand is going to make a perfect phone.
SE is making profit and i'm happy for them, now they can invest more in R&D, good marketing and more daring products.
to end this post i would like to add that i'm very glad how SE is handeling the bluetooth headset segment. there headsets are the best, its hard to make the HBH-300/660 even better, maby a new HBH-200 would be welcome during the next year.
other bluetooth products should be upgraded, like a new BT car, MMV-100 and HMB-30, if they would do that, i would be extremely happy
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |
