Yes they first announced his death. Apparent 'a source in the hospital' had leaked that news. They did an extra bulletin on it.
About tens minutes after an interview with one of the doctors was broadcasted saying he's not dead. Bit strange all that..... especially if somebody in the hospital spread the rumour

I actually did not intend this topic as a 'free territory' to insult americans and bush. No matter your personal opinion if you you wish to vent it I urgently request you open a new thread for it.
I was kinda hoping we could stick to the news around Arafat in this one... as his being dead or alive may have serious impact on the situation in Middle east and specifically Israel.

Yes, he's a survivor and his legend will still survive even after he's gone. But, the palestinian people need a new charismatic and peace loving leader.

@axxxr
I would reckon that it would be fair to assume that most Israelis would consider themselves enemies of Yasser Arafat and the terrorism his reign perpetuates.
Do you wish that all Israelis would burn in hell?
Perhaps all Jews?
Or maybe the majority of the peace-loving Western World, including those whose family and friends died in 9/11, who would all surely count themselves as enemies of terrorism, and may even support Bush in his War on Terror (whatever his true motivation) - I think all these people are enemies of Yasser Arafat, I certainly am.
Should they all burn in hell? Or do you perhaps have a responsibility,as a "member of staff" on this forum, to post a little more responsibly??
Apparently not...

I agree with Boba.
Axxxr didnt say anything about killing jews or isrealis. Everytime you go back to 9/11 then someone can retalliate and talk about the Iraqi situation or many many more things that have happened in the past...you will just end up going in circles with a pointless argument.

you guys are missing the point here--it's just as wrong to wish death on all of arafat's ememies as the way the nation of israel is acting towards the palentinians. Arafat isn't a very good person. Let's try to be objective, and think with our heads and not with our balls. |

er....excuse me!
I am not advocating killing ANYBODY, neither am I wishing death on anybody.
Personally, I think the lack of respect is shown by people making thoughtless posts wanting people dead or burning or burning in hell.
If you can fault my logic, then fine, but I do believe that wishing the enemies burnt in hell of a man who has, in the opinions of a vast number of people around the world, been largely responsible for the continuing terrorism in the Middle East, through failing to actually exert any sort of control over the people he masquerades to represent, is insulting.
Equally, I can see how criticising the actions of a man on his death bed (if you believe the propaganda, apparently he is still alive) will inflame emotions, but I wonder how many of you would be wishing Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden well in a similar situation.
While Arafat is alive, there will never be a chance of peace in the Middle East - when his successors take over, if the Palestinians can stop blowing themselves up in public places full of innocent people long enough to give it a chance, there is a good chance that they will get back around the negotiating table and hammer out an agreement. Those, at least are the indications coming out of Israel in the last week.
So, no, I don't wish him dead, because despite my feelings on the subject, that is an evil thing to do. However, I don't think this unadulterated praise for "a great man", whose enemies should "burn in hell" is any better.
And if anyone can give me one good reason why I should respect this man - dead, dying or otherwise - please do, just spare me the self-righteous rhetoric of the ignorant.
@kim, thank you - glad to see that someone sees my point!

@dave arafat is an international respected person. He has a past aswell, as many others, but according the actual situation in the mid-east, his person is very important for the palestinians, jews and the rest of the world. We could discuss it til eternity, but this man deserves attention.

@boba
One thing on which we are agreed is that he warrants attention, though perhaps for different reasons...
He is certainly internationally recognised - as for internationally respected, I think that would depend on which side of the religious spectrum you sit, or maybe which continent. I don't believe there is much respect for him outside the Middle East, but I agree we could discuss it endlessly without resolution.
