just remember that you canNOT use mp4s as ringtones... so make sure you keep the song you want to set as a ringtone in mp3 quality..

Well, in case of K700 (I'm not sure about Z1010) you CAN'T play AAC file...but you can just rename file and give it extension mp4. Example: songname.aac just rename to songname.mp4

@mrh, I suggest you get familiarized with your phone first, and try to search in this forum for topics about transferring files to phone. I'm sure it's been discussed many times here before.
resistance is futile.

Sorry, I must have sounded really dim.

I'm familiar with the phone, having had a t300, t610, and z600; I also know i-tunes (although its in a spirit of optimism - i don't yet have an i-pod). I have a bluetooth connection with my pc, and an infrared connetion with the laptop, and I can transfer files between the lot.

I just don't get the different music formats, or the editing thing for music. If anyone can even point me in the direction of instructions, I'd be grateful.

if you have mp3s you can use them directly after uploading them to your K700i. however, as it occupies a large space and K700i only has 41MB, some people suggest/prefer to convert them to mp4 as mp4 can use lower bitrates thus minimize the size of the songs but still get almost the same quality as the original mp3. If stereo isn't so important you can further convert them to mono mp4 so as to make it even smaller.

in iTunes you just select the song from the playlist and select Advanced>Convert Selection to AAC. find the file and change its extension to .mp4 and upload it to the K700i.
resistance is futile.

say i'm using the nokia pc suite to rip from audio cds, it stores the files as aac, so can i just simply remove the .aac file tag and put .mp4 and my k700i will recognise the format?
there is a God and he's got mad love for me!!!

@blackspot, you dnt have to change the extension to .mp4 if you used iTunes to convert. After conversion, just send it to your phone and the K700i would recognize it as an MP4 file.

Can I send files from i-tunes to the k700i in mp3 format, so that I can use them?

And can I use i-tunes or nero to shorten them?

I was skeptical but I tried it anyway, I uploaded the file with the default extension .m4a after converting it from iTunes, it went straight to the Others folder. I renamed it from there but there seems to be no way I can play it as a sound file or move it to the Sounds folder.
