I've always felt fine after donating. Went out the night after donating though. Probably not advisable, but it was a very very cheap night

marlonxp, I don't like needles, either. Lynx - go fetch the milk out the fridge, it'll say there.

When having an injection just look away and picture youself doing something you like...relax and try to make yourself think that your not having an injection but just sitting there relaxing or something, if you dont think about the needle then you should find it hurts less...it works for me

And dont tense your muscles, make sure you relax because it hurts more if youre tense

@absinthebri: You must be right...i would check my homework diary which says it there but i cant be bothered...i think the google and jeeves one shows 1 US pint which must be different to UK pints?

I gave blood recently for the first time - it didn't hurt anywhere near as much! Obviously you feel the needle go in, and you're aware that the needle is in whilst they take the pint out, but it doesn't really hurt. I was quite nervous (and will be when I go again!) as I hate needles too!

When I went, they did a quick test (I can't remember what it was for!) filled out some forms for stuff like my address etc, then I gave blood! They must test the actual blood donated (perhaps each one that's given) for things like vCJD and other blood bourne infections. The whole process (after the initial visit) would probably take no longer than an hour.
