Z1010 - Firmware Update |

Hi!
I was at the Sony Ericsson Service Partner and they did update my Z1010 to Firmware R1G007. But I don't see any changes - no animated themes or buttons ... nothing!
And a strange thing:
All calling lists, used ringtone, used alarm times, even the wap-browser-settings were preserved. How can this be after the mobilephone was flasht and updated?

Got a Z1010 customized for "Vodafone Live" in Sweden...
And they have disabled the possibility to set MP3 as ring signals 
They told me that this was a corporate decission just for not violate any laws... And in the next sentence they tell me that they are working with their portal so that you will be able to download MP3 ringsignals ? Seems that they want to earn money and nothing else...
I will remove the lock to vodafone and reflash my phone as fast as i'm able to get a new firmware (Original one...)
Any clues about where to find some orignal Sony-Ericsson firmware and a upgrade utility ? I got a P900 sync station if it's anygood ?!?!

as he said .... the Z1010 has a TFT screen ... & external lcd 4 different typs of gray .....

Ok, it's a TFT display but it's not the same quality like the TFT in the K700i. The brightness and the contrast are weaker.
What about the R1G or R1H Software-Updates? I did update to R1G but there are no changes at all.

You will not believe it, I went to the shop to update my Z1010 because 3G service is lost in most of the time, even when I choose it manually the signal is very strong. So I went to the sonyericsson service, left the phone there for 3 hours when I came they tell me the phone has a problem. They installed new sw R1G006. and told me to come at the end of October to fix the problem by updating to a new SW. The 3G service still had a problem and disappeared as soon as it could but another problem that came to life was that the phone started to switch off by it self. People for god sake which SW should be installed that will have great animated menu and STABLE 3G phone. ????? For sure dont install SW R1G006

I have no problems at all with R1G, but I don't see any changes like animated themes/menu either. Who of you wrote about these animated things and the other new features?

I Flashed my phones with R1H015, and WOW it works greate....
I wanted to debrand my Swedish "Vodafone-Live" phones due to limits.
And now i got 2 Z1010 phones running without Vodafone Live and i'm able to use MP3's as ring signals, have a much nicer looking, 2 new games, new animated ? icons (they just change abit when you navigate around.)
No Limits anymore, full use of the Z1010 Phones...
So i just went out and bought an ordinary datacable, then i did rebuild it, making an T28 upgrade cable of it....
(Moved connector 4 to 6 and connector 5 to 7, keept 8 and connected 9 and 11 togeteher in the contact connecting to the phone.)
Then i Payed for 2 lic/ticks to remove the phone lockings on two phones with supplied software from them, go to:

Did run the software, removed the lock and then downloaded the default firmware to the phones (2 files).
You have to findout which firmware files to use of your choice.. Did have to reflash the phone 3 times before i got the right version, or maybe it's as easy that you simply have to press "power-on" when the software says "done"...(I did remove the battery the first times..)
I used firmware from directory Z1010_R1H015_RE29
Firmware : Z1010_R1H015_EU1
Language : Z1010_R1H015_EU3 (SWE, NOR, DEN, FIN, ENGLISH)
But i don't know if it was the right one what's "RE29" ?
Is it maybe phone revision or something like that ?
(Got a Blue Vodafone-Live Z1010, 1 week old......)
Note that you download the firmware within the unlocking / flashing software to your pc, allso you need a internet connection because the application uses log/ticks each time you use it and there is some communication to a server involved.

I think i was lucky i just went for the latest release, be carefull and try to find out which firmware you need by yourself before flashing..
Allso i noticed if you do flash the phone and something goes wrong you will proberbly lose any warranty and get stuck with an unusable phone so "It's all up to you, no pain no gain..."
I was unable to turn on the phone somewhere in the process and got scared, did i screw up the firmware...
But after removing the battery it started up fine

I don't know how to get these updates, but I don't think I can do this myself with my Apple PowerMac G4 anyway?
What does this Icon-Animation look like? Is it zooming like the menu of the K700i? I've got the R1G and there the icons are still the same as known from the R1C. I can't see any changes in icons, themes, games, ...

So then you have to go to someone who got a PC (typ Windows  )
The icons changes, like if you go to the phone book it opens
if you go to the camera it changes to a camera with a flash
Some seems only to zoom-in on some icons (minor change).
I got two new games "Erix and Q*bert" i lost my old one, but i think
that one is downloadable for free on the sonyericsson wap site..
But i got the "Vodafone-Live" version before and compared to that one
it's a big big diffrence with this firmware. (Like night and day)

This icon-effect was the same in the R1C Firmware. Q*Bert was installed too. So I can't see any new stuff or new features. Alex |

As an answer to an earlier question, most new SEM phones are partitioned to hold the software and user data separated. That´s why you still have your numbers, pictures etc after a FW-update. Still, you might want to know that if there is any type of trouble with the update process or the file system is corrupted for some reason, you will still risk losing your own settings. Also, settings for gprs/wap etc leaps a greater risk of vanishing during FW upgrade.
If you need an upgrade for your fw and you live in Sweden, there are a few places where you can go to get help. Best is probably to leave the phone with Engström Telecom in Nacka, Stockholm. A lot of stores around the country send their phones to Engström anyways, for any kind of upgrade or repair. There might be a cost involved for phones older than 1 year (standard warranty time).
Also:
The most important news about the R1H Firmware is a bug fix addressing the problem with Z1010 hanging while trying to swap between the 2G and 3G networks. Not much have been done, though to the phones graphical looks. The kind of "wobbling" or "jumping" animated icons such as on the K500 are still not available on the Z1010 to my knowledge.

Thx. So I'll try to get the R1H Software from my Sony Ericsson Service-Partner. Where can I get more official themes for the Z1010? There can't be only 4? Would love to get the blue "blubb" theme from the K700i, but it doesn't work correct on the Z1010.
Who is the one that publishes such rumors that there are animated menus and themes for the Z1010? That's not ok. Istn't there an official list, which modifications the updates bring?

The z1010 has animated themes, which means that you can have an animated gif as a background. The new v800 has animated menus with moving buttons, so we hope that the next update for the z1010 will include them :-)
