Just like when you browse the internet on your PC, some web sites can detect your browser name(Mozila, Netscape, IE, Opera... ), and browser version by special codes.
To have the phone detected, the two points are neceaasry.
First, the wap browser need to have a dedicate user agent built in, which decribes its browser name and version, for example "Ericsson T36 Rxxx". I think many the current phones do have it, at least Sony Ericsson and Nokia do.
Second, the scripts should be updated by the web/wap designer, as Laffen do for Esato.
@Boba, the wap browser on R380 does not have its user agent named as "Ericsson R380 ...", so it can't be detected even if Laffen wants to do it. |

Most mobiles show make/model/sw version and sometimes browser type, such openwave. Also each browser tells what language and content/mime/file type it can accept, eg .jpg .thm
