when one clicks on any of the links to the threads, i wish i could go to the last page, instead of the first post.

there is an option in your preferences to view posts in ascending or descrending order. I use descending order so when I click a link to a thread it takes me to the last page

EDIT: however, upon using that idea i find a similar problem. when i want to view a thread (that i have not replied to) i have to click to the last page to see the original post.  hence by solving the "problem" another has been created

In the preferences menu, there is an option of viewing the posts in a reverse order, that is latest post first, masseur might have told you that.

I agree and having to read 25 posts in backwards order to me is infinitely more annoying still...
besides all forum scripts have a 'view own post' option somewhere, don't they?

I have added the suggested feature. When you click on the "My posts" link (must be logged in), you will be take directly to the last post you wrote in the thread. The search script is also updated. When clicking on a result, you will be taken to the page where the post in question is located.
