I tried it and it works fine - just a few tips
You might want to scratch at the existing solder pads a little with a screw driver etc to allow the new solder to flow and make a nice joint.
Pay attention when disassembling, because it took me longer to reassemble then to do the dirty, cus i couldn't remember how the "weights" were positioned.
My previous phone was/is an spv, and we did this mod there as well. However, something to bear in mind is the load on the usbs, since there's only so much draw they can handle. If you're doing this, might be better to use a powered hub in any event.
You might want to be careful about inserting the charging cable whilst it's connected to the usb (ie prevent charging from both sources) since it might blow the usb/puter. with spv we just moved the mains connector and left it inside the cradle. might be an idea to do the same here.
Any thoughts all?
FYI, it worked fine! Nothing blown up so far, and easy to do. Many thanks postie.
PPS charging thru usb might take longer than mains. With spv, you would barely be drawing enough to charge the it whilst phone and everything else was drawing juice from USB. much slower charge times. but useful none the less.

@mince-inside: Like your idea, I guess I'll try it. I once had an USB cable for my T65 which also acted as a charger...
The bad part is that any little discharge in the battery will cause the phone to charge, when it stays for long periods in the cradle. Why don't you put there a switch, too? |

Can i remind everyone that charging the battery with a supply current and voltage other than the recommended values is detrimental to battery life.

@switch, if it was so detrimantal people would not be buying the USB to SE power cables posted in other area of Easto

@switch I must be missing something, the spec of USB is 5V 500mA the output of MY mains charger is 4.9V 450mA. With my experience I am more than happy to charge my phone at work and when travelling in this manner.

However, the phone itself reduces the voltage to a certain value, so the voltage from the charger doesn't go directly into the battery.
Therefore, often the output voltage of the charger differs from the battery voltage. Also, the voltage may vary across different models of chargers but they still are compatible with a certain phone.
The main idea is that whatever charger or charging system you would be using, with ~85-115% rated output compared to the original one, the battery will still be charged normally. |

Then why, pray tell, did sonyericsson not implement this in the first place, instead of having a separate charger socket?

Maybe SE will implement this in the P910....lol. You might think of patenting it:-). Nice work, sounds too complicated for me to do it on my own though:-(

they went for a separate charger to offer the possibility of recharging the phone without carrying the docking station along. Also, not everybody would have at any time an available USB port (but probably an electrical outlet).
also, maybe not anybody would be happy with the Px00 draining the precious laptop battery? (therefore i suggested a switch) |

@ovidiugm I will try and hunt out a switch and fit it where the mains charger input used to go. It should make it quite a neat job in the end.
