I think Pakistan uses GSM. In South Africa whe have 3 providers, 18 million cellphone users, and you can get a connection(on PAYG) for about a $1.50.

Telecommunication is really going cheap like calls from land line phone in PK are free after 12:00 AM. A service provider from norway won the licence to start in pakistan but was later rejected bcuz it didnt had the sum of $18million for the licence. There is too much competition over here
