it has only 4 shades of grey as it wascool opposed to monochrome and there were no colour screens arond.

greyscale can have as many shades of grey as it pleases.

T39m and R520 were state of the art! But must say that 6210 and 6310 were and still are popular.

That was the fatter, memory stick version, mz5, which was completely overpriced! I never managed to try one, but got told it was pretty fat (not phat, fat.).

@mixin u might be right, but those fones had generally 4 colours and the offical name of them was greyscale.

but then, if it has only 4 shades, shouldn't it be 4grey, as it doesn't scale all the greys. I think maybe greyscale was a bit of a generous term to give.

Donnow the real reason, but r520, r380, t65 and t39 were greyscale fones. Not sure if t66 aswell.

Greyscale does not mean that you have a predefined number of shades. 4 shades is greyscale, 16 shades too, 256 also, ...
Otherwise you should not call a computer screen a color screen, as it has only 256 shades of red, 256 shades of blue and 256 shades of green.
Which makes for the 16777216 different colors.
