This is good news. At least they are agreeing to have a go. I couldn't give a monkeys whether i lose the Orange bits!
I will try over th weekend and let you know. Anyone else willing to try.
I spose the worst that could happen is that it deosnt work and there is no change. I suspect that if you manage it and then try to get a repair under warranty and Orange realise you have fiddled the phone they can refuse to repair for free?

I believe there's a CPW service centre in Glasgow so I'll try to give it a go tomorrow (they'll probably be shut , though) . We'll see. |

they wont refuse because you have the warranty with SE not with orange. you take it to a SE service centre to get it repaired |

Guys don't waste your time I already tried.
You cannot unbrand SE phones by sending them to a service point for a reflash, not anymore at least, the newer versions of the firmware from SE does not allow this, It tells you not allowed, bassicly it checks the firmware and the imei of the phone and says it can't upgrade we will have to wait for a 3rd party sollution to come on the market, even, the new firmwares on t610 and z600 and all upcoming mobiles are like this, My advice to everyone out there would be:
Stop buying branded mobiles from the operators, and let them know you don't like the branding, they will eventually get the idea and stop branding the phones and killing them the way they do.

Where or how can I find a list of Sony Ericsson service centres in the UK?! I have looked through the SE site and it appears to only list service centres for China.
I once remember there being one in Nottingham but I may have dreamt it! |

There is a CPW in Nottingham (near the Broadmarsh) that is a service centre. That might be the one you are thinking of
Just a thought!

@ oozeymc:
Send SE an email and they will send you a list. Be specific about your region though. |

Well, I got a call from the SE service centre today saying that the phone won't accept the original software so they couldn't flash the phone. I wasted 240 miles of driving for them to tell me that. I'm less than impressed with this whole sorry affair!! And to top things off I had to log on www.esato.com with my pc cos I can't access esato light on the K700!!! Made a bad day worse.
Long and the short of it is that orange cs have emailed their technical dept again to see if the original software can be put onot the phone some how.
So, does anyone know who to access esato light with the k700?? |

I think the fw restriction is not so much created on the wishes of I suspect it's the actual providers that have the uncontrollable urge to brand phones in the first place. All it really does is create more work for and more aggrevation for the end user
