Welcome to the esato forum
If you haven't already done so I suggest that you download the latest version of Sonicstage(Ver 2).
In sonicstage you should be able to transfer the songs to your Memory sick Duo I assume that sonicstage recognises the internal memory card reader on your viao.
Step 1 select Transfer and your internal card reader (from drop down menu)
Step 2 select your Album/Songs from the Library
Step 3 press the transfer button.
I hope this helps I don't have access to any viao PCs so I can't know for sure if it will work.
I have attached a picture to show the steps involved.

I must ask you a few questions about your vaio computer.
What model is it?
Does it have an internal card reader?
Is the card reader MagicGate compatible?

If you are using a third party external card reader you will find that that it will be impossible to use the atrac3 system as most don't support the magicgate system/drivers that sonicstage requires.
All I can suggest in the mean time is that you copy good quality mp3 files directly to your card and listen to those. I can give you a list of official sony card readers that do support the magicgate/atrac system if you want, but until I know what type of vaio system it is I can't help you much.
Don't give up it is worth it in the end

@LeBeLg
I've done some research and it appears that the MSAC-US2 model is designed for transfering pictures. The supplied software with the unit doesn't include the OpenMG software therefore I can only assume that the drivers that Sony produce don't support recognition for either OpenMG or Sonicstage software, although in my opinion the card reader is more than capable of working. I can only suggest that you complain very stongly to Sony about this and or look for some updated drivers.
I will update my guide asap with this information.

When formatting my MS with HBM-30, it appears "Format MS no" message on the screen??

Why?? Would anyone can advise me how to format with the equipment?

I took this from the handbook the only other way is to format it using software that comes with sonys memory card readers.

I have got P800 from India and have recently bought hbm-30 in NZ. I am able to pair the both, but I am not able to receive any calls on to my HBM-30. No reason could be found yet. Can you pls help? It is so much annoying? Also I have the standard adaptor (for p800 memory stick duo) does that help to convert mp3 to Atrac3

Hi all!
Gajinsan: Thanks a lot for the guide, which is the sole reason that I am clinging to the idea of getting Atrac3 to improve the battery life of my HBM-30. I've got the device, SonicStage 2.3 and a Sony MSAC-US1A card reader. Should all be fine. Got the same problem as a previous poster: My card reader doesn't show up in SonicStage. So I right-click a song in My Library (ATRAC3-converted from CD), and select "Move File" and throw it into the HIFI folder on the MS DUO. HBM doesn't recognize it, only says that there are no tracks. After a bit of tampering I see that if I record into the HBM, the ATRAC3s are called .msa, whereas the SonicStage ones are called .oma. Any clues? What's the file extension on the files you transfer onto your MSs? What does it say in the Explorer is on the MSs?

The "no" at the end is a sort of "Select menu". Press the up or down arrow on the device, and it will say "Format MS yes" instead. Then press the Play button to format.

@Generic
Quick research has shown that the MSAC-US1A is not comapatible with sonicstage. I have looked fully and there are only 4 compatible reader/writers MSAC-US20, MSAC-US30, MSAC-US70 and MSGC-US10.
I have updated the earlier post to reflect this. I'm afraid you have to change your MSAC-US1A for one of these other models.

Useful thread... very informative....

A few questions.

I have and use (despite its limitations) Sonicstage with my NetMD. I can download directly to this via a USB. Is there no similar direct connection for the HBM-30 ?

I only have Sonicstage 1.5. Not presently able to download V 2.0 as I am on dial-up and it would take for ever. Is the upgrade that important ?

Asked on another thread but..... CPW have the HPM-30 for under £50. Is this the same unit and is it now spectacular value for money, or was it always available at a similar price ?

There is no direct connection available to download songs onto the HBM-30, the only way is to use one of the sony card readers Imentioned in an earlier reply.
Sonicstage 1.5 should work perfectly with one of these readers to transfer your music onto the memory stick duo.
Although CPW offer this at a great price it has been (and still is) available from expansys at a slightly cheaper price for some time. http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=HBM-30
hope this answers all your questions.

Cheers for that .....all my questions answered....

Now just combine one of these with the HPR-20 and you would have the perfect add-onn !

And one more....... why would the HBM-30 be better than using the Mp3 player on my P900 and some bluetooth headphones ?
