I don't know about Smart getting desperate. Smart's subscriber base has surpassed Globes by a hell of a lot. I think its 8:4.5 in favor of Smart. In my opinion, Smarts marketing group has been more aggressive, with Globe becoming a bit complacent.

From what I hear, you may be able to haggle with Globe. I had a friend who applied for the Smart promo, but Globe said they'd match it. She had a plan 1200 and was offered a P900 to be delivered today. In the end, she went for the Smart. Apparently she asked for a P900 from Globe a day before Smart offered the promo. The Globe rep said sorry but they can't give a P900 so she said if Smart has that promo, maybe she should take it. For my friend, it was more payback time.

i would agree that smart is more aggressive than globe when it comes to marketing. bottom line is more subscriber base. Eat or Be Eaten alive in the corporate jungle.
Again globe's target is the corporate employees while smart's target is EVERYBODY.

It's not just marketing and market share. They're probably just unloading excess inventory or just in need of cash sales to reach projections. How can 1 week possibly make a difference.

Smart approached the big companies like Citibank. Offer's good on paper but where's the P900?
Sir, why don't u get an XDA II instead. Hmm... no.

I called up Smart's hotline last night 8:34 pm/Thursday/July 15th - local time making some 'Qs' 'bout the unit I got At the end of the conversation I asked what units are left for the promo's disposal , and they are: Nokia 6100, 6610i and Voyager/Smart Amazing Phone II All the rest included in the promo were all taken already including the PDAs that in my mind would never get out of their stockroom, + they have hundreds or perhaps even thousands of SE P900 awaiting to be released
Globe's really left lagging behind . . .

The XDA2 can do a lot more than the P900. Just compare the number and the type of apps available in Handango. You just have to accept that fact that it's Windows and a bit buggy.

But the P900 is a better phone.
While the XDA2 is a better PDA (don't expect much form it's phone functions).

Not to sound like a Smart loyalist, but they don't need to catch up with a desparate promo because they're already big enough.

From our contacts in Smart, this 1 week offer is like a trial promo, they want to check the market's response to a free phone offer. They didn't even advertise the whole thing, it was word of mouth. The Smart officers were kind of shocked that the promo was TOO successful.

I have the corporate offer sheet of Globe with me but I can't figure out how to post it online. Basically, it's the same as Smart, but the contract duration is longer. (if with Smart it's 24 months, with Globe it's 36 months)

Just check the fine print before committing.

Well Smart has the guts to market phones and plans at really low prices. That's why they are very successful. While Globe is more conservative. I don't really care on who wins out. But if Smart turns into a monopoly, the quality of their service might suffer.

Smart's promo isn't necessarily better than Globe's...

Smart’s promo requires you to maintain your plan for up to 3 years. Globe’s offer requires you to stay for only 2 years. For many of the handset offers, the total cost evens out: for instance, the XDA II is free at Smart’s P1,200/month plan with 36-month lock-in, and at Globe’s P1,800/month plan with 24-month lock-in. For both, the total is P43,200 – but with a shorter lock-in period for Globe.

Further, as those already on the Globe network would know, Globe’s offer is about more than just getting a free handset, but also access to Globe’s award-winning services, such as Text Back Mo, Libre Ko; Call and Text Collect; Share-a-Load, and future world-class innovations; assurance of clear connections during calls; membership in exclusive clubs such as Globe Girlfriends and GenTxt; and access to MyGlobe’s content.

There’s no reason to switch to Smart, because Globe is giving you not only a free phone, but a slew of other great services from the leading postpaid plan provider!

sorry but smart has a much better network than globe. iwas on globe from 1996 and finally killed my line early this year. have been on addict since it launched and have to say that globe's service is 2nd rate compared to smart. globe users will just never know it until they try it.

sorry but that's the reality of it.

Smart - no voice calls while roaming, only text.

Ok lang yan kung ang mga contacts mo ay puro family members and barkada. Kaso lang, paano na kung kailangan na tumawag ka sa isang opisina? I-text mo na lang ba ang mga messages mo sa managers or VP ng isang multi-national corporation?

@bobstarsg: There's a topic on the smart promo already started by jojo51069.

IMHO, there will definitely be more promos by the cell networks in the near future. With the new and soon-to-be-released new cellphone models (most brands), i believe new strategies will emerge to sell these phones. The latest promos are probably means to unload old stock to make room for the new phones....

I'm staying with Globe. Been a subscriber since 96. My family members (4 out of 6) have transfered to Smart 2 years ago. Now they want to go back to where they started. Why? Smart's Customer service. What do you expect from a PLDT company? Good luck to those blinded by a silly promo. Hope you have the patience with after sales customer support. Globe, hope you start giving options to non platinum loyal subscribers. It helps to keep what you have. Unlimited minutes on weekends? 2mb free allocation on gprs?:-)
