This is good!
Lets try to get everybody with a K700 (or without - just as a potential upgrader!) to send emails.
It would be nice to see the replies!

This is the response(s) I received from Orange UK:

| Dear Andrew
Thank you for your mail received on the 1 July regarding your new K700 phone.
I am sorry that you are unhappy that the shortcuts option is not available on the phone.
Orange uses their own software for this version of the phone and this is why this function is not available. The inclusion of this is a misprint that has now been identified and will be corrected in future printings of the handset.
As far as I am aware this is the only difference to the version of the phone on other networks.
May I apologise for any inconvenience caused and I trust that this clarifies the position for you.
Kind regards
Ian

Thank you for your mail relating to your new phone. I have been asked to respond on behalf of Ian.
It is regrettable that you feel that the Orange software applied to your phone has been created with a hidden agenda. Orange do personalise phones and many customers enjoy easy accessibility to this feature. Please accept my apologies that this enhancement does not suit your requirements.
May I advise that when a customer upgrades their phone they do have the opportunity to return it within 7 days. This leaves a suitable period in which to access the functionality of your chosen model and decide whether it meets your criteria. If within 7 days you identify a potential issue you may return the phone and exchange it for an alternative model. This option is only available with phones purchased via the Upgrade Helpdesk. If you believe that you are eligible for this type of return please contact your Helpdesk on 07973 100150 for advice. Lines are open 24 hours daily and an Operator will be happy to assist.
It may be possible to download a software patch directly from the sony ericsson website. Please paste the URL below into your search bar and follow the support, or contact us links.
www.sonyericsson.com
Alternatively please call Sony Ericsson on 08705 237 237 for further advice on software downloads. I must advise that amending any feature of the phone in this manner may risk invalidating your warranty. This type of service is at present not available via Orange Retail.
I trust my response addresses your enquiry and provides useful information.
Kind regards
Heidi

Thats why you test products before you decide to buy them.

1) It is quite difficult to test EVERYTHING in the shop.
2) You might also look at tha manual - whoops the manual says the features are there!!

It is hard to test everything in a shop but you do get a cooling down period of 7 days. Also if you dont try to buy the phone on the first day normally you get people on here who will let you know all the problems. Though i do accept it can be hard not to buy asap. The simple answer use your coolin down period wisely make sure the features you bought the phone for work the way you expect for me if the menus were fast i would nt use the short cuts but thats me

i was under the impression that any contract you sign you must be offered a cooling down period. i no difference in this wether bought from a shop or over the internet. even upgrades fall under this as you are signing a new contract though the time scale is not as long with these

No it is not about that you should be happy with you k700i but orange changed the phone 2 suit them! i do not want 2 change my phone i want it 2 do what i was told it dos! |

i appricate its not about that but the reality is orange are probably not gonna change there software as some people arent happy with it. i would guess most people who get the phone on orange have probably never visited this site and are buying the phone based on its price and looks and will never use it to its full potential.
so you have to choose stay on orange and live with the changes or exercise your right to return the phone and end your contract and get it from someone who doesnt changes the bits you need
if people do this and orange lose customers then maybe they may stop doing it however it doesnt seem to have affect vodaphone sales to much |

I have had the same irritating problems and have so far found Orange Customer Services to be unhelpful,so I've taken all your good advice and sent the following mail, which also describes several other problems I've noted.
"Dear Sir/Madam,
Just upgraded to a Sony Ericsson K700i and although I'm generally happy with the phone I would like help with a few problems.
(1)
The book states:
'To edit a shortcut:
1 Press the Action key and select Settings.
2 Scroll to Shortcuts and press Select.
3 Select one of the scroll options and press Edit.
4 Select one of the main menus and press Shortcut.'
Unfortunately this seems not to work.
Also from the 1st screen moving the joystick left and right doesn't reach any of the menus stated in the book only up and down.
(2)Do you know a quick way to swap between lines 1 and 2?Currently it's taking at least 4 key presses, plus one to return to the standby screen. On previous phones it's been far easier.
(3)If I'm on line 2 I cannot access my line 1 ansaphone messages without first switching lines, although it works the other way round! The manual clearly states that this should be possible, and it has been possible on my previous phones.
(4)Is it possible to get the phone to ring audibly, with the handsfree plugged in,and not just (ring) in the headset earpiece?
Regards
Steven Bartlett"
Perhaps one of you knows answers to some of my other queries-re queries 2 and 3 you'll note I have two phone lines on the same phone
Steve

@orangeman, I have tested the phone, and as such have held off my upgrade until either Orange release a new software version which fixes the MORE button and shortcuts menu, or another suitable phone comes along... ...but I hate waiting
It's amazing that Orange keep pointing us to SonyEricsson for a fix. Don't they understand that they're the ones who've modified the software? The default SonyEricsson software works fine thankyou very much. |

Here is the irritating reply to my mail that I received from Orange today and my response.(Yeah might be a good idea to wait a while before upgrading).

MY REPLY
Dear Su,
I'll try the sim update route although looking on esato.com this does not look promising.
Holding the hash key down only suceeds in putting the phone in silent mode!
Despite what you say,I can access line 2's ansaphone messages when on line 1!But not the other way around and the orange instruction manual states you should be able to!
The last point I guess I'll have to live with although is a little irritating when considering health concerns (handsfree I thought was safer with regard to microwave energy concerns),ie I normally leave the handsfree connected to the phone so it's ready for use with incoming calls, but don't necessarily have it glued to my ear!
Regards
Steven
