India has come a long way from what it used to be just a few years ago! I think its going the china way - the economy is booming and the people are getting richer. And the traditional way of thinking has given way to western thoughts. I would love to know more about iran , the way people think there and the state of its economy .

India is HUGE!
But it's more organized than Iran. Iran has now about 70 million population...it's quite large. We have many cultures (pure persians, turks, kurds, lor, baluch, and many more)...each with different tastes and ways of life. It all sounds silly, compared to India I know!! But proportionally speaking, I think it's similar.
Anyways, if you ask me (i am still new to Iran myself), people on the streets of Tehran, do not represent the whole population.
Recently, due to pressure (political, economical...), people have become depressed. It's a miracle if you drive in Tehran and don't use your horn, and don't have an accident once a week!! It's a mess.
Government offices are worse than you could imagine...no work done, lotsa corruption (to be fair, not as much as malaysia...it's terrible there), and a lot of embezzlement.
It's all a chain reaction. People need the money. So does the govt. The govt takes taxes, etc, ppl feel cheated and want to retaliate!
They don't like the govt...they don't feel the govt likes them! It doesn't belong to them. This is where all Iran's problems show up.
But all in all, as I said, you only learn about Iranians, inside of them...like any other culture. You should live with them, in their houses, to see them. To see what they do.
Iranians, unlike what many think, are VERY clean and have the BEST nutrition. You can judge by our body builds and strength.
We are very kind and very hospital people!
I don't want to make this long and boring...there are lots to talk about!
I can see you get notified fast by your wap...see, wap is just too expensive here...cuz some opportunists up in the telecom (which is a public and not private company, and it's only ONE, for 70 million people!!), like to fill up their pockets, and so, we are usually the last country to get the latest technologies!! We still don't have DSL!! no wait, we do, but it's only affordable by corporations!! |

huh! lucky you!
in kuala lumpur, it was cheap too...you'd pay about 5$ i think for a month! depended on the usage of course, but for me, occasional user, that was it. there was another service, fixed at 3$ a month, you could stream about 15 tv channels (not all live) unlimited!!! that was cool!
i had the best time in the trains, people staring at my phone or 'gadget' from outer space! hehe!
here in Iran, it's still new...they are charging about 2$ an hour...not per KB!! i'd just let them have their fun for a while...it'll get old in say...5 years?!?! and then we won't be using WAP anymore!!
in near future i hope Bbluetooth or any other tech could emerge that breaks the distance barrier and I could just connect to my PC's internet from my phone from anywhere in the city! that would be niiiiice!
btw, r u using p800? |

No my friend the P800 is beyond my reach as of now. I am a humble T230 user. I guess you are one hell of a lucky guy to be able to use it !

hehehe! so you are actually using the keypad to type all these! wow! that needs a lot of patience!
ya...i got this p800...but as of everything else i get to own, my thirst for it has subsided and i am now searching for pocket pcs!!! that's life man! you know, you work your butt off to get a car, the cheapest one! once you have it, then you'll want a mercedes! but even when you get a mercedes and a palace on canary islands and anoter in hawaii, you'll just get depressed!! so, don't beat yourself up with your t320! have fun with it!
but p800 is truly worth the money...it's not as expensive as the pocket pcs (PDAs in general) but it does what they do. p900 is really not worth all the fancy stuff it has..not to me. i'll pay that for an imate, or an O2...
good thing about p800 is that there's something new for it everyday!
i was browsing the forum and it said it can be turned into a mouse/keyboard uysing bluetooth! see what i mean?!! it's unlimited for the time being! |

He he yeah its really irritating to type all these stuff with my puny little keypad. Talking about PDAs well yes they are cool gadgets. Btw the Palm Tungsten T3 is a great one. It has a 400 mhz processor and an extendable screen. And yes BLUETOOTH. And its not that expensive as well !also i would like to know your age and name!

yup...T3 is niiice and cheap too...but it's not a phone!
I do need a phone! and don't wan to have it as an extra thing...i want it to be a phone first!
u should know if it's a pda-phone, the cheapest is p800, (it's not a full pda though) then starts with about 500$ to my knowledge.

Well if you need a PDA Phone, then the P900 is the best bet. There are other contenders too for example, have you heard about the Anextek SP230? It too has a 400 mhz processor, runs on pocket pc 2003 os. Has a TFT240*320 screen, 64 mb internal memory + MMC slot . The only minus point is that it aint got BT.Another one is the Palm Tungsten W. It has a full QWERTY keypad but the processor is only 33 mhz . Also it has only IR no sign of bluetooth here too.

ah ah...no p900 for me. thanks.
eventhough it looks super cool..but if i have the money, i'd get a proper pda!
i haven't really needed 65k colour yet..but i think it would be nice!!
that's why i am a bit upset with everex now, which i was in love with some time ago.

Well i've just decided to post a welcome message to milad, and all Iranians that will follow you.
And i'll say it in Portuguese: "Bem vindo amigo iraniano!" (you can always translate this on "bablefish" ).
You said that the (western) media made Iranians look like they're all terrorists, but intelligent people always know that they should read between the lines. And i consider myself intelligent.
There's no culture, religion or whatever that are evil by itself, it's always the means that men use that are evil.
But in that case only those men can be blamed and punished, not a whole culture/country.

@milad - Welcome, enjoy your stay!
I guess Iran gets a lot of it's bad press for it's government, not it's people, who sound to be a good, honourable bunch. btw, isn't it a bit risky for you to be criticising your government, could they track you down and imprison you, or is that an eggageration by the Western media? (Which wouldn't surprise me!)
Youre right though, there does seem to be a lot of materialism about, too much in fact. It seems that people, certainly in western cultures, are measured not on who they are but on what they've got, and it's wrong.
"All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke
