Btw. I never undestood why to ban a film. It just shows that some1s have to be afraid of sg. To ban sg is an evidence of fear and weakness.

It's not recommended for the
weak-hearted though. To me, it's the ultimate
torture movie, it's two hours of torture...
literally.

We all know what the movie is about. Even if you
don't read the subtitles (yes, it's not English,
it's Aramaic), you will still understand. But
there's really something more to it. We were used
to seeing films & plays about the passion of
Christ, but this is so different. I
think this is the closest interpretation to it.

Only some very minor flaws on effects, but oh
well... those might be intended anyway. You might
not even notice it at all.

Indeed, its very hard to represent phisical passion and pain in a film, especially in case jesus. His suffering to present unreligious ppl afford much.

just as a sideline to this, taken from Sky News today

PYTHON TAKES ON PASSION

Film-makers behind the Life of Brian are hoping to cash in on the success of The Passion of the Christ with a re-release the satirical Monty Python flick.

The 1979 movie about Brian of Nazareth, who is mistaken for the Messiah, will make a return to the big screen in America at the end of April in Los Angeles and New York.

It comes as Mel Gibson's movie about the crucifixion continues to make hundreds of millions of pounds at the box office.

Life of Brian producer John Goldstone told Variety magazine: "A lot of people in America have said that they couldn't figure out a way to deal with the public reaction to Mel's movie.

"This is a kind of antidote to Mel."

The movie is being distributed by Rainbow Releasing, which previously handled the US re-release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Henry Jaglom, Goldstone's partner, said it was "counter programming" to the "hysteria" which had followed The Passion.

Industry experts predict Gibson's film could take half a billion dollars at the box office.

The members of the Monty Python cast - John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Terry Jones and the late Graham Chapman - shared writing credits to the film.

The re-release reportedly came with the blessing of the surviving Pythons.

When it was released 25 years ago the Life of Brian created a storm and was branded blasphemous by some Christians.

@walids - I am not 100% agreeable to your comment re: the producers of the films are not 100% after (making) huge profits when making a movie. If you can just notice, Mel Gibson is not that active in the US movie industry for a couple of years now with his movie career, I guess in a way, he took some risk doing this project. That's why many 'critics' were discussing the effect of what he just produced, he touched on a 'sacred persona' here that's why. I'll give you an historic example, when James Cameron did the movie 'The Titanic' he doled out around US$ 300M, he admitted it before hand that the film was a 'sacrifice' one, he really never expected that it will surpass the earnings with that of his original budget. Imagine he really built an exact replica of the Titanic just to make the whole film 'realistically' made. What happened was the result in total earnings was recorded far beyond his dreams, I guess it doubled the amount, even tripled. The soundtrack itself 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion reached an insurmountable earnings in the music industry, making it on music top charts for months - as recorded. The effect was amazing, imagine it was reported that teens in the US played that hit music in parties, whereas they should have just played the in-thing during that time, say hip-hop and rap music. The 'quintessential' movie of that time indeed- EXCELSIOR !!!
If you just read my earlier posts re: this thread you authored, I am already lamenting on the possiblities of why don't such wealthy producers make worthwhile religion-related flicks, setting aside monetary gains, but instead, by achieving recognizable awards (Oscar's) that is definitely will melt their hearts - achieving both is the best for them.
So, in these era of materialism there are only a few dedicated (to their work/craft) actors who will definitely go out of their way to make good movies and will not expect huge amounts of earnings in return - in the movie world !
I remain . . . I like this thread you authored mate, it is really worth visiting more often . . .

I agree with @boyi with his reply. Yes, Gibson maybe only doled out a small monetary amount doing this film, if you can just see that in the roster of it's actors only Monica Belluci (sexy, voluptuous actress) is known, even the one who played the role of Jesus Christ is new in Hollywood. After this film watch out for him, he'll surely be the next 'hot' male property in the US movie industry !
Also, how I just love watching (for the 20th time now) Mel Gibson's old movie - "The Braveheart" - an historic story of Scotland's past, he played the role of a certain 'Wallace' - a Scottish conqueror in the 16th century, who's only battlecry is 'Freedom' , an equivalent of Alexander the Great !

The best way to sell sg is making ppl crazy without saying anything of the product. Ebody will see it coz its sg against the rules and traditions in this case. As we say here, every miracle lasts three days long...

I have a gutsy feeling here that the movie - The Passion Of The Christ will surely be nominated, almost in all the categories in next year's - Academy Awards - The Oscar's !
