Motorola MPx100 Cancelled
Unfortunately, Motorola officials confirmed that this device has officially been cancelled. It seems that market demand is simply much higher for clamshell-style models, especially among the professional users that are the target market for the MPx series.

wouldnt they have wasted a lot of money by cancelling it at such a late stage?

motorola are coming up with some great phones (se and nokia should be getting worried) Its a shame this phone got cancelled but surely calmshell phones are'nt that high in demand (look at how well the t68, t610, k700, 6600, 6230... etc have been selling) I for one hate calmshell phones, Althogh motorola have so far been the only company to produce some that i would consider!

Looking back I think this was a HUGE and dumb mistake by Motorola back in 2003/4 by cancelling this. Seems Motorola's decision made sense ONLY if they concentrated on their USA market only. IF they looked globally they'd have noticed that HTC was KILLING it in Europe with many of their candybar style Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphones on Vodafone, and other networks back then.
Oddly enough Motorola showed a trial video of their MPx 100 (codenamed MPX 300) with people in office and a brotha using a suit (which looked EXACTLY like my dad back then). That device didn't sell well due to it's over $1300 import pricing and limited availability.
Incidentally back in 2004 CANDYBAR smartphones were king: RIM's Blackberry 7290/Curves/and BOLDs where what business users were using.

They did indeed! yet back then Motorola was making hand over fist JUST from their flip phones.

Good set of specs for the time. Maybe the candybar market was too crowded back then whilst they were onto a surefire hit with the RAZR.

Possibly .. but you have to remember Motorola is a staunch USA company ... RAZR was killing it while Samsung and other flip phones in the USA and Canada just were not getting much success. Over in Europe candy bar smartphones were ALL the rage from Nokia S60 to even HTC's (as an OEM to Vodafone, Orange, etc) Windows Smartphone or PocketPC phones were hot fire (!) when this prototype was proposed.
