Yes, certain software elements were customized for Cingular, just like for T-Mobile and ATT. T68 is 1900, 1800, and 900mhz, so no big deal about network selection. With T616, what Cingular wants to happen is for the phone to pick the best available network, especially as they push nationwide plans, and have gsm 850 up in almost all of the properties that were tdma/analog. If you are say, in NJ, Cingular wants your phone on Cingular's gsm 850 network first. They do not want you switching it to ATT or T-mobile. Why? $$$$$$

@porterg: FYI Since T-Mobile west deployed, they have been piggy-backing off of the other two GSM carriers there, no their ownnetwork... Funny isn't it!

@Constantine: Under GSM Networks, I have New search, Select Network, Search mode, and Prefferred Nets. FYI usin sw R1A054

Me too! R1A054. But I have only "New Search". Is there any way I can see what carriers are available in the region I am travelling through?

I just exchanged my phone to a different T616, and it has the very same display problem. Is it a known fact? I mean, when I showed the phone to a friend of mine, he said that he sees no problem... But to me it looked apparent the first time I switched the phone on (it is very vivid on the white background, in the right most side of the screen).
