I don't mind paying for av, it is most certainly worth the money, however I have installed avg freeware on my pc whilst looking around and found that it very much does all i need it to do and it's free.... so it simply stayed on ever since

Oh yeah, I'm not suggesting that people shouldn't pay for AV and PFW software, It's just that the two apps I mentioned are very good and happen to be free as well, so that's even better isn't it?

I keep getting virus's sent to webmaster@boyi.8k.com so i've taken it off the site.
Heres a few details to look out for,
inzy@blueyonder.co.uk sent a 'swimmingpoll.zip'.
esha3000@hotmail.com sent another zip (forgot name).
jeffschader@theskinfactory.com sent 'mails.exe'.
elainescarrett@btinternet sent 'dinner.scr'.
ndr@o2.co.uk sent 'posting.zip'.
richard@lanr.co.uk sent disco.doc.pif'.
and
webmaster@tgtsoft.com sent 'topseller.htm.scr'.
All of these were between 27kb and 31kb attacthments,i never usually get mails like these but they were all sent to my boyi.8k.com site.....Bastards!!!
EDIT! Just got another while posting this reply,'izmir@tse.org.tr'. Hopefully that will be the last
Btw,i scanned them with avast! anti-virus and they were all infected.

it seems two virus writers are having a war..
f-secure.com/v-descs/netsky_f.shtml
NetSky.F worm variant was found on 3rd of March 2004. This variant spreads itself in e-mails as an executable attachment.
The following text string is present in the worm's body:
Skynet AntiVirus - Bagle - you are a looser ! ! ! !
This indicates an on-going competition/war among virus writers of the currently widespread malware: Bagle and NetSky. This NetSky worm variant tries to remove Bagle worm infection if it finds it on an infected computer.
so in other words they are so bored with writing viruses that they are having a turf war with other virus writers.

SMS Phantom is a freeware messaging service that allows you to send text SMS messages
from your PC to mobile phones all over the world. This is the most convenient way to
send text SMS messages from your PC.This is the 'coolest' way on the web to get in
contact with your friends and family and send them the SMS messages while you are at
your desktop. A web application integrates with the software and allows you to send
text SMS messages from the www.freesms.shorturl.com website after the installation of
the software.

A buddy of mine let his Norton expire, got a virus, lost everything. I got one same way, but was able to get info back. Got norton back, bought an external HD, transfered all info I wanted to it (norton stopped the virus from going over), reinstalled everything.
My company got nailed with the "lovebug" virus years ago. We are talking an email address of about 18000 people. Know who opened it? IT. 4 different people in IT, to be exact. |

As I don't delete mail-servers on my mail-server (I want to see where they come from and notify the ISP the sender is using in order to get down the bandwidth used) I can get quite a bit of viruses at times.
Though, what does annoy me is that quite a few ISPs does not really take action on the notices I send out in a standard form with full info, or they act very slow - as netcabo.pt to mention one example; a user from this ISP is still pumping out viruses after over a week's time, and probably the ISP did not notify him / her and cut his / hers connection to the net 'til the problem is fixed. |
