But airtel is not CDMA its just the good old fashioned GSM.

3G technology is there in both GSM and CDMA. |

Ya but since its going to be introduced by AIRTEL only them we can rule out the cdma phones from our list right?

EDGE is designed to enhance the existing GSM network and therefore should be cheaper to deploy than WCDMA (UMTS).
However, it doesn't offer the same kind of capacity improvements.
EDGE is an acronym for Enhanced Global Rates for Global Evolution. WCDMA stands for Wide Band Code Division Multiple Access, while GSM stands for Global Systems for Mobile Communications.

Hi, I bought a new nokia 6820 a week back, the phone is great, it has bluetooth, ir, as well as edge, and camera the price was Rs.15,650/-
I want to know when are service providers in India coming up with EDGE technology??

I doubt SE will release a bunch of EDGE phones. They do have an EDGE PC card though.
The telco world is a bit weird now. I still have faith in ... but so far, their new line-up isn't very inspiring. Nothing ground breaking... no new technology.
I hope has a few aces up it's sleeve... P900 and T630 killer phones. These are due for major upgrades already. Although the S700 can be counted as a T630 replacement I guess. And the K700 can replace the lower T230.
Hmmm... looks like it's time for a mega-P900 on steroids to come up and blow everyone else out of the water.
