I have the same 70hours standby time problem on my new 02W10 T39.
1 question - does this software fix actually increase the amount of standby time available, or does it just increase the amount shown??
MAKTIGER - how long will you be without your phone for? |

Hi CHEMO,
I sent my phone off to CELESTICA on Wednesday morning. My phone supplier (Time2Talk Comms) told me the turn-a-round should be 48 hrs, SONYERICSSON told me upto 10days!. Anyway, I will just have to wait and see. My brother is next in line to have his phone sorted out.
I think also that I will have to wait and see exactly what they do to my handset. The software version on the phone was R3_.
I guess the same (wait and see) goes for the battery standby/talktime that the phone reports and that which the phone actually provides.
I'll let you know how I get on. If anyone else has any experiences perhaps they could share the info. also.
Regards,

I have just got a replacement T39m from UK Orange manufactured 02w13 and it still has the problem. |

see my initial post requesting e-mail at the top of the thread
I've been away and the response has been disappointing but the results so far are:
6 faulty phones 1 wk8 2wk9 2 wk10 - 1 unknown.
0 OK (week 8-10 of 2002)
As an update for my phone I am about to receive a new phone that is supposed to be free of the fault. Watch this space.
There are at least some people on Orange Customer Service that are now aware of the problem - I eventually spoke to someone called Stephen. He told me that they had just become aware of the problem and had ordered some current stock to be fixed and new stock had been ordered. The first of these has now come in.

Right, emailed Sony Ericsson on Fri, here's the response I got:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson.
Regarding your enquiry concerning the battery of this handset, I will say that the status button is only a guide, it can be up to 50% inaccurate.
Also was the phone fully charged for 16hrs continuously when first bought? And then allowed to run down completely and given a full charge three times in a row? Only after this will the handset gain its full life. If you still feel that you are not getting the full life out of the battery then please contact the number below and select Option 3 where an advisor can run some checks on the phone and if faulty go through the service options with you.
Please contact us again if we can be of further assistance and visit our website at www.sonyericssonmobile.com for more information and support on our products.
Best regards,
Justin Lee

Opinion: Hi there,
I have recently upgraded to a T39m on Orange. I really like the phone itself, but there seems to be a problem with the amount of standby time...it is showing 70 standby hours after a full charge when it should be 160 hours+.
I know this is a fairly common problem, a friend of mine phoned you up today about this as he has the same problem with his T39, although whoever he spoke to there didn't know of any problem.
Other people have been having the exact same problem, I found this out from the following message forums:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=4394&forum=2&48
and
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=4758&forum=2&16
and
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=4674&forum=2&6
As I said I really like the T39 and want to keep it, unless this problem is sorted out then I will be sending it back to Orange as the good battery life was the main reason I wanted this phone.
Thanks for your help,
Stu Brown
What a joke, eh?

Update:
Just rang Orange, as expected their customer service people knew nothing about the T39 standby problem *sigh*
Anyway, they're sending me a replacement phone and battery, so if they're sorting their T39 stock as you say Steve, then hopefully I'll get a fully working T39...
Just a shame that it's such a hassle to get something like this sorted...after I just upgraded from my previous problem phone, the good old 7110

These batteries are strange on the T39. My brother and I both got the T39 last week.
We both charged them together. After a full charge his phone read 250 hours standby and mine gave a reading of 200 hours. Strange. Maybe this is the innacuracies that SE talk about.
However, it is a great phone and I am more than pleased with it.
Hope you guys get your problems sorted out soon.

Hi CHEMO,
Its been a week since I sent my T39m to Ericsson's (Advanced) service centre in Telford (UK). I'm still waiting for my phone to come back. My brother also ordered the same phone 2 weeks prior to me, he went through the fully charge/discharge cycle 4 times. The battery standby does not go beyond 70/74 hours, and this is the 'actual' time experienced.
Hopefully when I get my phone back things will have been remedied. Since I sent my phone away I have been using my good old trusted NOKIA 7110e, why did I change? because of T39m's LONG 'battery life'!!!

MAKTIGER - "trusted" 7110? How many have u been through then? Is your bro gonna get his T39 sorted out too? It really is quite annoying, but hopefully this new one I'm getting soon will sort the problem out... |

This is SO irritating! I alone have spoken to three different people about this problem, not to mention all the other Orange T39-ers that have been issued replacements. It's just plain silly. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET THROUGH TO THESE PEOPLE??
Today I tried writing them an e-mail. Fingers crossed

OK guys, got my replacement T39 through this morning, a 02W13 phone...and the standby issue seems to have been sorted! Don't know what s/w model it is or anything, but on my current battery that reports 36hrs standby on the old phone, this new one reports 136hrs! So after a full charge it should be 200+ hrs...sweet.
Bloody stupid that Orange seem oblivious to all this, but I got there in the end. |

I finally received my 4th handset from Orange (they did phone to blame the PO 2 days ago).
First charge 256hours standby.
It's a week 13 phone
...
and the mic which was slightly dodgy on the second phone and barely working on the second appears to be fine.
It's just a shame they couldn't sort it sooner.
How come it takes Sony Ericsson UK and Orange UK much longer than many other places to accept the fault?
I see from posts that some people are still being fobbed off. I suggest you ask for a supervisor or hang up and try later - you may get lucky. |

Yeah it's ridiculous isn't it? I bet if I rang up again they still wouldn't know what I'm going on about...
Oh well, just fully charged my battery and it's showing 212 standby hours - hooray! |
