I don't know about 3 in other countries, but in Australia 3 and its 3G handsets are reasonably cheap. The problem is that the quality of the video calls isn't all that crash hot and current 3G phones can't even access the mobile Internet (WAP)! Furthermore, certain GSM phones (eg. the Sony Ericsson P800) have MORE features than current 3G handsets and only lack the low-quality video calls! I think I'll wait for 3G and 3G handsets to mature a bit more...

what does the 3G chips look like?
I'm not very highly informed on 3G
is it a different kind of SIM chip
can 3G phones access GSM networks?

Same as a normal sim from wht Ive seen - some handsets can roam onto gsm if allowed by manufacturer &/or network. [addsig]
