lol! yeah thats the advice I give people... if it does what you want now then get it now!
The thing is I currently use my ipaq for music and have several 256MB SD cards so its not like its an urgent requirement for me.
I guess I am just waiting until it 'feels right' but I do understand the battery concerns with colour screens. Look how long Nintendo took to add colour to the game boy and then how much longer it took to get a back light.
The guy I sit next to in my Frankfurt office has the 30MB ipod and he seems pretty happy with it.
hmmmm... maybe I should take the plunge and listen to your good advice.

JoolsG3 and others... now this is what I am talking about.
The latest T3 mag has pictures and details of the rumoured Video iPod. The only pic on that site is what the girl is holding in her hand on the cover but in the mag itself is a full page picture and it looks great! Just what I was waiting for.
50gb drive, 4.6" screen, touch sensitive, bluetooth for file sharing with other Video iPods etc. Its only a mock up picture by the designers in the mag but its more or less what is expected early next year.
can't wait!

Yeah, looks cool but unfortunately is pure speculation at the moment. Even the most accurate of the Apple rumour web-sites have nothing like that mentioned as a possible future product. Unless T3 know something no-one else but Apple does...
And can you imagine how long it would take to transfer a movie via Bluetooth? |

yeah... agree totally that its not a definite product but it certainly looks promising and is definitly the sort of thing I am waiting for.
Since you seem more up to date with iPod developments please report back here if you hear of anything more! cheers!

I also got a 3rd gen iPod
15GB
I love it
but I hate two things about it
the fact that shutting down is so gay
and u cant create ur own folders!!!!!!!
I want to organize my songs the way I WANT them
not the way it wants them
cuz I actually hv to edit the ID3 Tags..
it was a hassle to get.. the back order lists were up to 5months
I got one within a week

What do you mean by "shutting down is so gay" ?
Also, you can organise your music in any way you want. Just turn off the "Keep iTunes Music Folder organised" option in iTunes preferences, then you can sort, name, create folders, rename and do whatever you want with the tracks on your hard disk.
The iPod itself only sorts tracks using the information you give it. So editing the MP3 tags is pretty important. If you want to group songs together on the iPod, just make a playlist. Simple!

screw making a playlist
shutting down is gay as in there is no "on/off" button
I organize my songs on my HDD using my own folders
like "Others", "Rap", "Rock", "Techno", "Oldies", "Misc", "TV Shows" etc...
I want to just go in there and select the song I want from dat folder
the same way u wld do for winamp or something...
w/e.. I'll take a look at it later

That's one of the best features of the iPod - that's what makes the organisation of songs so powerful!! When you've got 3-5000 tracks on your iPod you'll welcome Playlists!!
> shutting down is gay as in there is no "on/off" button
It doesn't need one. It turns itself off after 30 seconds of inactivity. Or you can just hold down the play (I think) button for 2 seconds.

You can do that easily. Just set the Genre tag to those labels. You can then choose tracks on the iPod by Genre, if that's how you want to do it.

Here's an article about that video iPod. But it also quotes Apple CEO Steve Jobs as saying: "I'm not convinced people want to watch movies on a tiny little screen."
On Google you'll also find many links to pages claiming Apple was to release a video iPod in January this year - obviously that never happened...
Another interesting page.

You can set Genre's to be anything you want including "arabic", "french" etc. and they'll appear like that on the iPod.
Unfortunately this does mean editing MP3 ID tags, but as the iPod is an MP3 player, it uses MP3 ID tags extensively. It's definately worth the effort though.
I know on the Mac there are tools to edit MP3 tags automatically, or in groups etc, (and in iTunes) so you don't have to manually do each one. I guess there are similar tools for Windows. |

Windows media player 9 gives you full tag edit functionality including single or multiple files... it does WMA too! (of course!)

Looks like Apple are developing some kind of next generation iPod that has video support! Have a look at this job advert on Apple's site:
https://jobs.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Employment.woa/wa/jobDescription?RequisitionID=2075781
Seeking a highly motivated engineer to develop next generation iPod product. Must have experience in overall system design of audio and video products.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of multimedia file formats (MPEG-4, QuickTime).
- Minimum 5 years of development in embedded system environments.
-Strong C, C++ and RISC assembler is required, experience with DSP
programming is highly desired.
- Knowledge intricate interfaces details associated with audio and video codecs.
- Familiarity with audio and video compression standards (MP3, MPEG-2, H.263)
- Work seamlessly with third party vendors.
- Familiarity with overall architecture of consumer electronics products.
So maybe Steve Jobs has had a change of heart on video iPods... |

fijbert, I absolutly agree with you about arranging music on the ipod. I wish that you could just put it into folders yourself because the way iTunes does it is gay. Though I do love my ipod, don't get me wrong, its just that way it's all organised is frustrating.
And Jools there isn't a proper on/off button, because when you hold down play for 2 or 3 seconds it does go off, but still keeps power to the RAM so it plays as soon as you press play, though this is a nice feature, it does go through the battery a bit, it would be nice to be able to have the choice to properly turn it off if you want. |
