@kearnage

Maybe you've recorded the sound at too high a bit rate.

If you go to the Packet Video website you can download a User Guide that details what the rate should be.

Also search the net for something the called "The Unofficial MP4 Conversion Guide For The SE P800" But remember, this guide is giving advice on using AAC audio codec but it is still helpful as a general guide.

http://www.ihardcastle.free-online.co.uk/index.htm

Finally I think the Apple QuickTime website might have some helpful info: www.apple.com/quicktime

But what can be said for certain, is that the Philips Camcoder v.1.0 Beta 1.0 CANNOT play back audio encoded in AAC.

I hope my info helps

I wonder if AMR audio only works if you have the R2D / R2F upgrade?

Has anyone using SWEETHEART's app on old fw version got sound working?

I really can't work it out.

I have converted loads of video clips for my P800 in the past (just ask [-SWEET-HEART-] hehe) but I still can't get any sound out of the Camcoder player.

What software are you using to encode these clips. I have tried pvAuthor 3 but that doesn't work. Mpegable doesn't give me the option of audio codec and neither does Sorenson Squeeze.

I've had an idea tho, maybe I don't have the correct codec installed on my pc. I'll try getting a decent AMR codec and see if that makes a difference.

R1D

Could anybody that has a clip that plays with sound in Camcoder send me a PM and I'll let you have my email. That way we can test to see if it's a firmware thing or I'm just lame at encoding

And we can help anybody else who is trying like mad to get their Camcoder to play sound.

Hi - i'm using sweet heart's cracked app with FirmWare1...and i'm usin pv recorder (not Author) to encode clips into 3gp files, they all work great -full screen and fairly loud clear sound - mp4 files wont play with sound though no matter what settings i use... also my mates just sent me a 3gp clip of pulp fiction over bluetooth, ripped direct from dvd using pv author - this plays well smooth with nice sound.... i'm gonna need a spare battery though if it's to be at all usefull for those camping trips!!

I think you all need to follow the links i gave earlier and do some reading up. Essentialy 3gp is part of the MPEG4 standard. It simply designates certain basic paramaters as to what constitutes a 3gp file. If you have QuickTime Pro you will quickly learn what those paramaters are.

If you go to the MPEG consortium web page, again you will learn.

I DO NOT have any 3gp files at present ( although I did encode some earlier). All my files are MP4. Those with AMR audio play on the camcoder.

Packet Video Player will play BOTH (i.e. AMR and AAC audio).

- Encoding standards from different programs -

- QuickTime Pro

Will encode in EITHER AMR or AAC audio

- Packet Video Author

Can encode in AMR or AAC audio but it also has a unique feature that enables it to produce a file that has BOTH audio standards in the same file.

This means a file produced this way will (i) play on anything and (ii) will probably be slightly bigger than a file with just one audio codec.

- Mpegable

This can only produce files in the AAC audio standard.

The firmware you have on your phone has nothing to with it. If you have Packet Video Player installed on your phone then it is this program that determines what can be played back NOT the Firmware (well sort of, coz the standard progs that come with the phone are tied into the Firmware updates)

I hope the info I have given is helpful.

Happy videoing

Has anyone left the program running by mistake for a hour or so? I did that and it killed my battery from a full charge in a hour or less.

Well errm (I say rather embarrased)

Following on from my last post/advice, guess what happened to me folks?

I encoded a video using, PV Author, and I made sure that the audio was encoded in AMR format (or what PV Author calls GSM_AMR).

And the damn movie played fine BUT NO BLOODY SOUND!!!! GRRRRRH!!

So it looks like I have joined the club .... i.e. I cant encode video files to allow the Camcoder program to play them back with sound.

I am just gonna have to go back to the drawing board, scratch my head, and try and work out whats wrong. But I am certain it will not play AAC encoded files.

Oh but here's some reall good news for you all -

The P800 can only play back video files with a resolution of no more than 196 x 144 resolution, right?

Well, erm wrong!!!

I suspected that this file size was artificial and simply a limitation of the default installed video player (Packet Video Player). So I encoded some files at 352 x 288 resolution and then tried to play them back using the Camcoder program.

Well, they played back just fine!!

No problems at all, with very smooth playback and detail

So if you want to ensure that yor videos look first class in full screen mode, save your MP4 files to a higher resolution and play them back on the Camcoder program.

There is just one slight problem though, and that is the fact that some programs (e.g. QuickTime Pro) dont allow you to produce files bigger than 196 x 144. PV Author does though
