If I am not all wrong, this program is based on the UK phonenumbers? in Sweden we got like 0708 for Vodafone. Though they also own other number series. Would I then be able to use this program?

The idea is that the program is generic, and should be usable in any country which has easy rules to follow for different call destinations. By configuring your tariff, it should be usable anywhere. I keep using UK as an example as that's where I live!
the "rules" in the uk are:
07 = mobile
01/02 = landline
0800/0808 = freephone
etc.
By releasing the tariff file format, I'm trying to to see if the model fits tariffs in other countries too, so if your interested, please see if you can write your tariff config in the format above!

C|2|1|Landline Off-Peak||N|N|Y|N|0|1|2
would be like prefix when you call 01xxxxxx and 02xxxxxx when making a call to someone.
So in sweden that could be
C|2|1|Landline Off-Peak||N|N|Y|N|0|1|2|3|4|5|6|8|9
We have prefixes or what you call them, like:
011 for Norrköping
08 for Stockholm etc.
Could post a complete list with uhm most of swedens "prefixes".
Feels like I am way outa my league here...

WOW!!! someone actually is on the idea i was about to ask....
of course i am in australia so hopefully it will be available to us over here..
a few days ago i was talking bout such a program with my partner and here it is.. someone on the idea...
Please keep up the work... is there a site i can go to and keep updates on your progress????
Also if you need someone from Australia to test it i shall certainly put up my hand!!..

Glad to hear, your still keeping an open mind about how the program will end up. And that you are following up the suggestions placed in this thread, this is how software development should be.
I'm sorry I don't have any further information on the internal workings of the phonebook. I stumbled across the bit about /m etc purely by chance, when I happened to use my Psion Revo to back up my phonebook. All my numbers had the relevent /'s after them on the psion, and so just out of interest I played about with them, swopping various ones to see what happened.
I fully understand what your saying about the contact list db, it's a tricky one, I guess the only way to do it is to try a couple of methods and see which one works best.
Sorry I can't be anymore help. 
Is there a link for us to upload out completed config files? or do we just continue posting them here?

Hmmm, not quite - this is interesting though...
Currently the object model and file format only supports one mask per usage type (so you can't say that landlines are 01xxx AND 02xxx). The reason for this at the moment is because it isn't really needed in the UK as you "can make it work" by picking off all other usage types more specifically leaving everything else to be picked up by the landlines type which is 0xxx
such as:
0845 = local
07 = mobile
0800 = freephone
0808 = freephone
0898 = porn line
etc...leaving
0 = all remaining numbers are landlines
This may not work in other countries which is why I'm trying to find out now so I can make changes if necessary. For your example:
C|2|1|Landline Off-Peak||N|N|Y|N|0|1|2|3|4|5|6|8|9
This says usage type id 2, of type 1 (voice call), named "Landline Off-Peak", then flags for a few things then mask is "0", and then it should be followed by the bucket assigment, and then the cost per unit. The 1|2|3... is not in the correct format and so would not work properly.

Have been following the progress of your software and this thread and finally feel i have a valid point to add.
Just found this about Specified Numbering Scheme (SNS)
Below are some links to some sites that will help explain the std number allocation.
These allocations will be fixed to Network except when changes are made either due to expiry of allocation or number porting.
On the subject of number porting whilst selling mobiles for 'the link', in my experience only 1 in 30 - 1 in 50 would port their number. Consequently your software would have fairly small error margins Except, for example, a man calling his wife 10 times a day on a ported number - hence your software's calculations could be wildly incorrect.
To my understanding records of ported numbers are not publicly available.
The point of all this is to say that if you want a record of STD allocations in the UK, OFTEL's your man. And be sure to inform users of your software that it is only a guide to their expenditure not a 100% accurate reading.

Hey Julian. Looks as though you're thinking this through pretty comprehensively. Here are my observations (I've taken out the ones I that you have already had from others in this thread):
(1) You need to distinguish between CSD and HSCSD data calls somehow. Some networks charge more for HSCSD. In some cases I believe this is a connection charge.
(2) Have you considered tariffs that are on a daily rather than monthly cycle (e.g. Virgin mobile or Orange's Everyday 50)? On Virgin mobile you pay 15p/min any call for the first five minutes of calls each day, then 5p/min for all calls for the rest of that day. Then it resets for the following day. At least it used to be like that.
(3) In the US, incoming calls come out of your inclusive airtime just like outgoing calls. On my Cingular tariff I get 4000 minutes per month and this is used for all calls (incoming and outgoing).
(4) Er... international calls or calls whilst roaming?? That could be very complicated. For example, some tariffs charge you for each minute while you're roaming; others charge you for each minute AND deduct from your included airtime too.
(5) Similarly with SMS, for example in the UK, Orange use up your inclusive messages as well as charging you a supplement for being on another network. If your inclusive messages are used up, you pay the normal UK cost plus the supplement.
(6) GPRS connections could be via bluetooth (so they're free) - I do this all the time - or via 802.11 e.g. in a wi-fi hotspot like Starbucks in the US. No idea how you'd distinguish these.

I'm sure you're comments are received gratefully by Julian, and you've clearly given it much thought. But it's all very complicated (such as the daily tariffs) butpersonally I doubt this applies to many. Themajority are satisfied I should imagine with the exisiting matrix which is simple and will give a very GOOD indication of billing for MOST people.
Clearly somebody calling abroad all the timeis slightly diffferent but for many this is rare. Furthermore many will be happy with a general estimate of thier bill as otherwise it can be immpossible to have ANY idea what to expect when the bill pops through the letterbox!
I would liek Julian to stick to the straight forward (which satisfies the majority) and therefore get it made and released and tested quicker. later modifications once the general idea is perfected could be considered AFTER this to satisfy slightly less common mobile usage.
Anyway thats just my opinion, as I'd like to see the product released in it's simplest possible form FIRST then progress bity by bit. JUST as for ogg player. Otherwise we will suffer far far too many bugs in the program which just messes things up long term. keep it simple for now is my advice (at least untill the first successfull beta release!) |

(A bit like the Remote P800 application by mobileways.de which has made the P800 an even more must-have device.) |

Local here can be 01x, 03x, 04x, 05x, 06x, 08, 09x
Mobile: 07x I don't think there are any other mobile.
Then some 07x are for pay lotsa money per minute numbers.
Hmm don't think it would work in Sweden
