O2 in the UK charge £12 for 5meg and then £2.75 per meg from then onwards.

I wish they would do a pay as you go, as I wouldnt use 5 meg a month.

Orange UK are doing a GPRS promotion where u get 3 months free WAP only GRPS (Possibly maybe only on new connections? U have 2 ask them 2 activate it)
Bit crap coz I thgt it was all free until I was told only viewin WAP pages is free, only d/l 2MB thou...They said u will be charged for viewing web pages, althou even on my T68i I could view web pages 2 an extent, and that wasnt a HTML browser..its a bit misleading really and peeps who dont know the difference between WAP and HTML pages are gonna b in for a shock on their bill!

Vfe Germany has announced cheaper tariffs, but for the moment:

EURO 0,29 per 10 kB = 29 EURO per 1MB.

You can change into volume tariffs (GPRS L, XL, XXL = 1,5,20 MB flat rate), but in order to do that, you manually have to sign a piece of paper and send it back via snail mail or fax which really is not convenient at all.

Bottom line: GPRS traffic is not taking off.

I found the cheapest way of getting gprs is going on a gprs plan! My first month in austria cost me 220€!!!!!!!!! Now i switched to a gprs and i pay about 42€!!!!

I am sure the prices in germany shoud be the same in austria! i pay 1mb for 1€

Here in The Netherlands, GPRS is also slow on the uptake -- one guess why.

I do think action is required - in the form of consumer interaction and perhaps a website/petition. Eitherway, I do think much of it is just telcos trying to pay for 3G, and - like wap and sms - they have to be taught what the consumer wants, and how they want it.

I do think a monthly tariff is fine, but the rates have to drop by a factor of 5-10 for it to be as usable as a consumer would like it. Otherwise, I bet we'll start seeing phones with WiFi in them or it'll die on the vine.

I'd love a GPS system for my P800, but the only ones I've see so far have been ones that feed data back and forth over GPRS, and it the current costs - that might be a dealbreaker.

Applications and services will never grow otherwise...
