Thanks aj,

I have done it all & it works exactly as you said. It's great; Thanks a lot. I was wondering what exactly has been done? How many instruments did my P800 support originally? How many does it support now? [addsig]

Hi Ajack,

Are you saying that any MIDI files you add to your system will play the new patches, or just the built-in MIDI sounds?

I'm guessing you've taken the built-in MIDI files and run them through the Beatnik Audio Editor and added/re-voiced them with the patches that are built in to the P800's Beatnik playback engine, with more polyphony?

Cheers from Sungai Petani

i've noticed that some midis sound better with the old set but im not complaining... just wish the waiting time could be removed. is it 10 seconds? i dont have the old set so i can just delete the patch and its back to normal.

Cool. But perhaps you could help to "demystify" what was done and how it was done... where or how was the "patch" file obtained?

What is the reason behind the 10 second delay? Reading a 400K file should not be the reason... could this be improved further?

Thanks! This really came as a good surprise! And I couldn't agree more that the patch should officially come from SE...

Unfortunately, this IS the reason behind the delay. The P800 doesn't have RAM to keep these files in, so once the Audio app is closed, the MIDI patch is dumped.

When you start up the Audio app again, or when a call comes in, the MIDI patch must be reloaded and mapped out.

This is the case for ALL MIDI players... only difference is, we don't notice the load time on a PC anymore since current sound cards have their own RAM to load MIDI patches onto.

This can be improved if the MIDI set was smaller... just like the default patch which is supposedly around 100K...but then, you get crappy sounding MIDIs... if there was a way to individually map out each instrument, trimming it down where needed... then loading time could be improved.

There is a way to get midi files to use only the required instrument patches, it's called Beatnik RMF.

Basically takes the midi file, includes higher quality instrument sounds, but as it's only for the few instruments it needs for that tune, the file is much smaller than a whole new wave table, but still bigger than a basic midi file.

Shame more people don't have the software to convert midi files into beatnik rmf files

To all those who cant find the Beatnik folder on C: and D:....ITS NOT THERE!
U will find it in the Z: ROM Drive and as its a ROM drive dont bother tryin 2 change it coz its Read Only Memory! U can view the 2 ROM drives, A: and Z: by cheking the 'show ROM drives' in the Fileman prefs.

Just create a new folder called Beatnik in C:system\data or D:system\data copy the new patch file and voila! The phone ignores the original midi patch file in A: and uses the new one.

Just wanted 2 ask, where can u get more patch files, if any, as a search on Google didnt turn up anythin!

@all:

I've just updated my site with an additional beatnik patch set from the guys that sux (Nok*a). It's a 175K patch set and a tip on how to manage all the patch sets in the mobile at once.

Have fun people!
