For any Canadian users, I just talked to Fido about this subject today. They stated that while the phone and network are capable of SMS via GPRS, FIDO does not currently support it...
Big surprise... when you can charge 10 cents per message....

@ mad medik: u r right. they'll never support it even if available:)But still, it's not worth it especially nowadays when u can get bulk sms for so little money.

The option of sending SMS over GPRS in stead of GSM in the message settings wouldn't make it cost the same as the amount of bytes you transfer, because you only use another way of transport to your mobile carrier's SMSC. They would still charge you to use their SMSC and deliver the message to the recipient.
It doesn't matter to them how you transfer the message to them, you still use their network for the same amount of data.
I wish anyone knew the name of the service I mentioned before, that sends the SMS to another, cheaper, company's SMSC, who charge less to relay the message. |

i already mentioned somewhere here but haven't read any feedbacks.at touch mobile (ph) once you changed the smsc of the NEW, UNUSED SIM before using it, u can send SMS ABSOLUTELY FREE! Me & my friend used it for several months..until someone from TM called & told us to check our SMS Settings or get disconnected from the network..
