Siemens' first smartphone, the SX1
Snapshot by Michael Oryl (editor) on Wednesday February 19, 2003.
Siemens SX1
Siemens has formally announced their first phone based on the Nokia Series 60 Interface, the SX1. Like all Series 60 devices (3650, 7650), it runs the Symbian OS.
The triband GSM SX1 is packed full of features, especially when it comes to multimedia. You can play MP3 files and videos, listen to the built-in FM radio, take photos with the built-in camera - just about anything you could want. All in a fairly small package weighing 110 grams.
Part of the compact design and low wait of the SX1 is due to the unique button design. The numeric buttons on the SX1 run up and down the left and right edges of the front of the phone. This saves a considerable about of space in the device, but could lead to the same kind of negative reactions that its cousin the Nokia 3650 had.
Siemens is hoping to have this device available in retail locations by the end of the summer.
We will post a full snapshot when we get full details.
Some features of the Siemens SX1:

lets be honest guys if it was SE who made this mobile i'm sure wi would be so proud and happy about it.
But since it is siemens who made it wi have to find all the negative sides about this mobile right?
I just wanna say WELL DONE Siemens its a real answer to Nokia and SE.
I think i'll gonna sell my P800 and get me SX1 when it comes out.

looks good, but those buttons are really annoying down the sides, and the p800 gives more freedom cos its got a stylus (stick thingy) which makes it feel like a mini computer rather than a brick phone with a luhs design. the siemens have just started in the colour industry, are they advanced enough.
sexy little thing though...

Im really thinkin to purchase the Sx1, but also the T610 so thats the reason i came hear to hear some stuff about the T610 and im also on forums where they talk about the Sx1 the whole time. and to be honest i DONT KNOW, what to do, something in me says T610 is smal and looks great and great options But on the other hand so does this Siemens i know its bigger But it has an Mp3 player in it. And thats something im looking for. The price will be the same for both devices around 550 Euro i heard, But i still have 2,3 or 4 months to find out.
Ohyeah i think even how great the siemens Sx1 is and how badly i want to buy it, that it isnt a P800 killer because that phone is on a little higher level and most people who bought the P800 are happy that it is a little bit big because its easy to work with now. |

Why does everyone think that the SX1 is in the same class as the P800?!?!??!?! It's a Series 60 phone!!!! It's a helluva lot better than the 7650 or 3650. I'd recommend it over the T610, if you don't mind the buttons... but it's NOT a hybrid!!!! It can have all the apps in the world...but at the end of the day, it's a smartphone, not a hybrid PDA/phone. You can't draw on it... Half the phone is occupied by buttons... the screen is a lot smaller. It's a different class all together!!!! Right now, has no phone to compete against the SX1, in the smartphone class, the SX1 is the best. In the hybrid PDA/phone class, the P800 is the best. Siemen's has no phone yet to compete against the 7250 or the T610.
If you're thinking that the SX1 is better than the P800, then the P800 was never meant for you. It's that simple. These two phones cannot be compared since they're not intended to meet the same demands. It's like saying a screwdriver is better than a Swissknife since it's bigger, easier to hold, and cheaper.
Get the phone to meet YOUR needs. If you need a SMARTPHONE, get the SX1. If you need a LIFESTYLE phone, wait for the T610. If you want a PDA/PHONE IN ONE, get the P800...GET IT?!?!?!?
It's like those people saying that the Z1010 is better than the P800, or which should I get? The T610 or P800? ... it depends on YOUR needs. Gee... should I get a blue t-shirt? Or black pants? It's apples and oranges people.
Siemen's rocks. They always had a great mobile portfolio. If I was to choose another phone other than it would be Siemens. |

@jplacson: very well said - it's just that people generally don't exactly know their own demands, and phones are sort of matter of fashion to them...

That's exactly my point... it's a part of you... fashion, practicality, or otherwise... if everyone wore exactly the same clothes... that would be kinda dull wouldn't it?
And say everyone in Esato was wearing Ralph Lauren shirts... doesn't mean RL is better than YSL, or Armani. Or with trainers, Nike isn't better than Reebok or Oakley... it's a matter of taste.
Some people like Palm, others like PPC, others like a pen & paper. Get the one that suits you. A pen & paper require no batteries, are very cheap, accepts handwriting, flexible, shock & dust proof... with optional water-proof plastic envelope too!
I think there are enough mobile phone models out there to suit everyone. is NOT for the masses... they never were... as Ericsson, or as . Sony tried... but failed. If you like Nokia.. then by all means... buy a Nokia. But don't come to Esato (a SonyEricsson site) and ask "Should I get a 7210 or the T610?"..you may get an honest opinion, but asking it is just dumb... most of us will say hell..most of us would even recommend a 3 year old Ericsson phone over a new Nokia... so don't bother asking
And to the loyal, but very funny users who try to compare the Z1010, T610, and P800... guys... get a life! Please! That's like comparing the BMW 3, 5, and 7 series. A 523i is NOT an upgrade to the 328i ... and an M3 is NOT an upgrade of a 750iL. The T610 is NOT an upgrade of the P800... and the Z1010 is NOT the upgrade of the T610.. or any other combination! There is more to life than comparing phones FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER
There will NEVER be ONE ultimate phone... NEVER. Human irrationality will see to that. "It's too common", "No one else has it", "It's too cheap", "It's too expensive", "It looks too weird", "Buttons are too big", "Buttons are too small", "The phone is too big", "The phone is too small", "Battery is too heavy", "Battery doesn't have enough power", "All my friends have one", "None of my friends have one", "It doesn't have enough functions", "I don't want to pay for functions I won't use"... these are just some reasons on why someone WON'T buy a particular phone. That's kinda why they make different models don't you think?!??!
