Curious remarks on this upcoming CMTS provider... Interesting. I'm surprised no one seems to really be concerned about the coverage. Would anybody know the extent of this? I hear GSM Phase I and II involves around 700 cell sites. Smart has 2,900. Is this a deterrent?

Globe started with around 250 cellsites while Smart around 200... it took them around 2 years to reach 750 cellsites.
For some it might be a turn off while others would take the risk just like when those 2 telcos were starting against giants Piltel, Smart (Etacs) and Extelcom... where are they now? |

one thing to keep in mind is that cellsite technology has also advanced so that the new cellsites can cover larger areas than the older ones.
definitely there will be blind spots in the beginning, but if metro manila is adequately covered and if their rates are half of the competition, then sun shouldn't have too much trouble building critical mass.
at the end of the day, it's good for all of us subscribers for a newcomer to come and shake up the competition. better rates and better service (supposedly) for everyone.

its good that digitel has been raised from the dead, more options for us. so wala pa pala silang postpaid plans.
i have to commend them for bringing out dummy phones at southmall las pinas, at least people get to feel the phones esp the p800 and siemens.

Digitel is not dead, or did not die in the first place. They're making a killing on landline operations in the North, which is their service area.
Sun Cellular uses the most recent GSM infrastructure available (well, two years ago when the project kicked off)
I am renaming the topic to reflect the real name of the brand. |

I don't doubt that the Gokongwei's are committed to be the third (fifth) player in this extremely competitive and lucrative arena. I think that interconnects on SMS will not be an issue and that the NTC, as toothless as it is, will be able to enforce this among the incumbents.
As a matter of maybe taking a mini-survey, for potential subs whats most important?
1) handset subsidies
2) Value added services i.e. GPRS, Voice mail, Infotext/Sim based cash transactions...
3) Lower voice and SMS rates
4) Geographic coverage and SMS interconnect.

Digitel said that 2 years is their payback period when to recover their investments.Phase1 awarded to Alcatel.Phase 2 either to same company or to Ericsson. I do hope that they support ALMOST ALL BRANDS for their value added services like ringtone, logos, games dl.NOT JUST NOKIA ALONE.Pity the other brands who cnt download these.Take a look at glbes wap page:if you are not Nokia u cnt fully use most of their services.I do hope Sun supports all formats:not only java but for mophun,In fusio(phillips),etc.

think the cheap charges only apply to Sun to Sun calls. Calling other netwrks will b charged higher. Think i heard that in their radio commercial

I dunno about 2 yrs payback, ROI of 50% p.a.? I think its cash break-even in 2 yrs or at 1m subs whichever comes first. Heard that the soft launch in DVO gathered some 100k subs already.
Is that sun-to-sun promo ONLY for the 1st 100k subs? |

I reserved for 2 sims sa Sun. I dont know though if I will use it permanently. I mean the rates are lower but not that very low compared to other carriers. I dont know if it is enough to convince me to switch permanently. Maybe, when my friends are using SUN since thats where the 2/call applies and .50cents/text.
I hope they come out with other good plan or promo like maybe cheap MMS, cheap if not free GPRS. April 6 is not so far away when their SIMS become available but they havent announced much about the srvices they will be providing. |
