I kno alot of u r sayin that a 16-bit screen wud drain the battery quicker.........but all SE needed to do is stick in a more powerful battery like the one in 610 which is 1500mAh......and if i remember reading correctly the talk & standby times between the two devices are roughly the same!

Thanks for all of your responses people - I really appreciate it. Very good information.

Battery life is very important. I guess I wasn't too sure about how having higher bit depth would affect battery life. I suppose it's just the "idea" of not having 16-bit that can drive a person nuts, rather than it truly being a shortcoming. I haven't had a chance to see it person yet, but I'm sure you're right - as soon as I do, I'm going to want one. Not to mention, as a digi-cam nut, having that built in VGA camera would be very cool.

I guess I should just go ahead and buy it. The other things I mentioned are probably just not going to be issues when making use of it each day. I've always wanted WAV for a ring tone anyway, so I shouldn't make the polyphony thing such an issue either.

Thanks again. And any other info is great!

After reading the T610 white paper I see a couple of errors on this thread.

1. The T610 is not a phone targeted to the youth market but rather to the professional market. (Page 5)
2. The T610 comes with a 750mAh battery, and not a 1500mAh one. (Page 45)

Other than what is stated on this document, judging by the sober design and color selection available I have to agree that this is their actual target market.

Regards,

Fabrizio

-Multi-tasking OS (I'm not sure, but I think this scraps out ALL Palm OS PDAs since Palm OS cannot have multiple apps running in the background. Or can it? Palm gurus pls confirm)

yes, with version 5, palmos is a multitasking os, at last.

i don't have a p800, but i'm saving to get one. however, i tried it, and i can say that it's really wonderful. i was using a nokia 9210 and trying to sell it to buy myself a p800.

the sound quality is excellent, you can also watch video with awesome sound and picture quality..

don't think even twice to get one of p800

The practical difference between 16-bit screens and 12-bit screens is not that huge...
16-voice polyphonic is more than enough.
I think they usually use from 3-8 maybe 10 voices.(most nokias have only 4 and it sounds almost ok on them...)

Fabrizio : CORRECT T610 is not a youth phone,...its a business-phone,..one only has to look at the features.

Screen on T610 is "only" STN,...good decision actually, as it consumes less power than TFT.

And true,..a P800 with 65.536 colors would consume a lot of battery-power,..just look at the less advanced SPV and Samsung's models.

4096 colors are very good,..and screen reacts good and fast on P800.

AFAIK, the T610 is running a TFT screen.

Regarding the 16-note polyphony, this is greatly enhanced by the inclusion of the BAE (Beatnik Audio Engine) within the OS. Check this out at www.beatnik.com.

Essentially, it allows MIDI files to be enhanced if you buy the Beatnik editor. The average consumer won't buy the editor, but look for poly tones etc coming out with small footprint (~30k) that will have you gobsmacked.

I have the editor and I'm playing with it as I'm into MIDI etc. Will report back and maybe post the location of my 'Beatnikfied' tones later. Anyone else here have any Beatnik tones for us to check out? [addsig]
