djlaw - fair comment then m8, my T68 was sent to Mastercare to be repaired, 3 weeks l8r i got a phone call at 830pm to say that my phone had been stolen from the repair centre! The bloke then went on to say that they would replace the phone, but couldn't tell me what phone I would get (since the T68 had been discontinued by then) or even when i would get it. I eventually was given a T68i (which I later found out was a refurb phone) 2 weeks later.

Any shop that is owned by the dixons group should be avoided like the plague. They employ the most inept people to walk this earth, They teach them to be as bad at their job as can be and sell you only the things that will give them extra comission. Like mastercare which I was unfortunate enough to take out once and still have not got a satisfactory result and that is a year and a half later and they obviously don't keep any form of record as to what your problem is as you have to repeat everything time and time again to end up with the same result at the end, abad head and no further forward.

@blackcat- aren't phones4u related to singlepoint? nuff said.
for what it's worth, i've had a good run with carphone warehouse so far. no problems with the t68, but when they stuffed up my first bill they not only sorted that out, but let me switch to a lower tariff too (this is just after my first month on a free phone). nice service. |

I hav a very bad experience buying at dixons(edinburgh), the sales assistant doesn't have a slight idea what he's selling, he only knows the price and the insurance cost which is a rip-off... Not to mention his personal hygiene.

Every retailer has good and bad staff... Some people are just shit at their jobs and thats in every line of work... Its all about how well a company does when summit goes wrong... No one is perfect and mistakes are made how well this is dealt with is the indicator of a good company...

True, Caspa, but some retailers must actively go out of their way to employ muppets. Seriously, the mobile industry is awash with ignorant and incompetent sales staff. The Link employees shouldn't be blamed, they're just mostly stupid. 4U on the other hand would sell you their granny if the thought you'd insure her! I know you're all thinking this is a gross generalisation but equally as many of you are nodding your head.
The reason there are more apparently incompetent people trying to sell you a mobile than just about anything else is because there is actually a very high level of technical knowledge required to be a good phone salesman and with the current rate of growth in the industry and the speed with which the technology is changing, you shouldn't be surprised that people getting paid the same as macdonalds staff have the same level of competence.
Right, rant over

No that was Dialaphone (same company) that told u they don't wear knickers, and that was becoz their staff all moonlight as sex-line workers and they often get confused

How about this, i think that staff often judge the person & act accordingly so we all get different treatment, i am a fairly friendly person & try to befriend staff first before pushing very hard for the best deal & i find all shops about the same .
BUT if my mother was to go phone shopping i think CPW would be the nicest & most honest with dixons next in line with all the others & my local phones4u would lie & eat her alive with hidden charges along with pc world.
CPW or way ahead on service & value for money & i have NO connection with the company. |

@pachy
good point, well made. I must admit I do have a connection with CPW but it's nice to know that some customers appreciate us trying to be helpful and honest, as opposed to some of our vulture-like competitors.
Also true though, is the fact that reps do react according to the way they are treated. We're all human after all. You'll always get further being reasonable than going at it hammer and tongs. Personally, I adopt the take no shit approach, cos people have to understand that having a problem with a company and venting it on an unsuspecting rep won't solve your issue any quicker.
Geez, I must stop ranting!

Have to agree with Dave_UK on that one, if a customer comes into my shop and is nice to me then I will make sure that I do everything I can to help them, but if the customer is being unreasonably arsey then the sorry truth of it is that they get bad treatment back. Like Dave says, we're all only human. |
