Email from uiq tech
Mr x,
UIQ 2.1 is binary and source compatible with UIQ 2.0. UIQ 2.0 is the version of UIQ that is used in the Sony Ericsson P800.
For more information about Sony Ericsson's products, you will have to turn to Sony Ericsson.
Best regards,
Peter Wikström

From the UIQ websiteQuote:
| A new version of the product description will be published shortly, updated with the new features of UIQ 2.1. It includes a well-integrated phone application as part of the product offering. Another new feature is the latest version of Java MIDP 2.0. This offers richer graphical features, plus improved gaming and sound features. UIQ 2.1 also comes with Themes, which consists of a combination of background wallpapers, color schemes and sounds. This can be used for branding as well as personalization of the phone by the end-user. |

| I have to say there's nothing in this that sounds particularly exciting. |

This binary and source compatiblity stuff means, that the developers don't have to recompile programs in order to run on UIQ 2.1.
That means, that you should be able to run 2.0 software on 2.1 seamlessly.

I doubt it... besides... the current phone part is pretty basic... actually, it looks skeletal actually.
Even if it frees up more space... I doubt it will be significant enough to notice.
I actually hope the phone section will be improved... customizable keypad colors that allow us to chage the backlight color of the keys with the flip closed... better call list management... better flip closed shortcuts (why can't we surf WAP with the flip closed?) ... option to make the phone section the default section when the flip is opened. |
