Good description.
can't afford to take risks with 3G handset designs, they need to be accepted first.

Then, when people start using them, designers can start to do something a little different.

I like that kind of design. But I can't wait so much to buy a new mobile phone. I don't think that there will be a 3g network in my country in the next 2 years.
Do you know when will Motorola V600 be released out in Europe or any other good phone with that kind of design?

Cool... what do you design? Well, from what I know, Industrial Designers is the classification for people who design everything from consumer electronics to cars.

z1010 was never meant to be the smartphone of p800's class, so I think your comparisons are totally unfair and without basis. Also, how can you judge the entire new direction of a company to be following that of Samsung's based on 1 phone? Aren't you even aware of their future T range designs? Personally, I hate clamshells, but the perfectly logical reason for clamshells is to maximise screen estate while retaining a reasonable size and length. SPV is a non-clamshell with large screen, and I don't think the keypad is very manageable.

Why do you hate clamshells so much? I like this design even though I have never had this kind of phone. But I'm sure that mq next phone will be with clamshell design. Maybe it will be Motorola V600 or NECN8.

If you have a 3G phone, it is used for video calls. If you want video calls, you are not going to hold it up to your ear, you want to hold it in the palm of your hand, and have the screen at a good angle to see.
This is where clamshell designs are very useful, with one hand you can easily hold it down low, but have the screen at such an angle to see it nicely.
As well as that you need to have a camera pointing at your face.

I _think_ that 3 is testing the Z1010 for the Italian and UK markets, if so, we could see it in the wild in a lot less time than the P800 took.
Also it has had the memory stick duo as part of it's design for longer.

The more products that use the duo, the better for everyone.

Anyway, I'm planning on getting a 3G phone in the next 6 weeks, as soon as I am back from India, and the only thing that might make me wait is if I can get a time for the Z1010 to be available.

Anyone have any ideas?

In the UK (and Italy I believe) 3 are launching their service with three handsets, NEC606 NEC808 and Motorola A830.
But they are testing a lot more phones as well, the Motorola A835 is going to be out very soon, there will be a few others as well. And the guy in the store told me they were running tests on an SE phone, which I figure must be the Z1010 (I went to a demo a week ago).

I dig the design... have likes the Sony Ericsson flip phones since I saw a silver and orange 65,000 color TFT display phone from Japan... It was from AU VERY nice... makes me jealous of the Japanese Sony Ericsson users.
