Like I said too there is still the market & people who want the 'normal' phones. All manufacturers should see there is still that small gap in the market where people want non touch based or non smart phones with buttons or maybe a combination of both. They should not be putting all their eggs into one basket so to speak. Their older A2 phones like w995 for example were big sellers. Like Nokia it still has Symbian & S40. Not good just to stick to one OS that is not even their own. But it still is good that they look to improve on their Android range.

SE needs, probably more than most other companies, to jump on the Android bandwagon right now, which it should do with all its resources.

Android as an OS is currently growing three times as fast as any other OS and SE needs to take this opportunity to build back up it's reputation and market share while the stupendous growth of Android is happening.

I wouldn't expect many other phones with an OS other than Android for a while to come yet.

I'm with tranced on this one, sticking with one OS is dangerous IMO.

If I were them I would allocate 80 percent of my resources on Android, 10 on Windows phone and 10 on the A-platform.

Now that they have experience with Android and have come up with a very, very good phone in the Arc it shouldn't be a problem to easily produce many quality Android phone with great support.

What held them back was the dull Symbian S60 or SF3 if you prefer, now that that is out of the way they can really make some serious progress. Windows won't be that demanding cause it is already 'prescribed' for them by Microsoft plus they could learn a few useful things on Windows that they could implement on their Android phones. It's a win-win situation.

A lot of the old people also want a hassle-free phone which is where their A-platform comes in. It is not only the old people but some young ones would buy such phones.

My concern is they are doing the age old mistake of putting their eggs into one basket, usually the end result isn't so great.

They need to test the waters and release just one Windows phone this year and see what happens. I know the OS isn't doing that well but with SE's design excellence they can bag a few euros/dollars.

The Aspen phones never really took off did it. That was Windows. Does anyone ever think that long into the future Android could become so popular and so common place it might become stagnant or boring? Just a thought.

The Aspen was an afterthought really, I don't think SE put in any effort in that phone and you could tell they didn't really expect much from it by its pricing. At that time they were more than likely looking ahead to Windows phone and so had to keep their Windows presence in the market with the Window mobile 6.5 Aspen until they produce their Windows phone device.

I agree that at some point in the future Android will likely reach its plateau and then things will not look so rosy for (assuming they stick to this decision) one OS Sony Ericsson.

This may be stupid but in my eyes a simple move. What if SE put windows on Arc? What i'm trying to say is why create something new. Bring out a phone that can run both.
Would hardware be a problem? I guess not.

they are afraid to launch one like that... i bet if they load the N8 with the same linux based bootloader as in the N900, those krazies at Xda will port android to the N8 in a second.

returning to the original subject, I would love to see Froyo on a x10 mini pro.

One of the smartest decisions to come from Lund in a while. Thank god they recognised how important it is to stick with android for a while, rather than spreading their resources thinly across multiple platforms.
Symbian on the Satio and Vivaz was still their greates mistake. Imagine how much money they put in customising the UI and making the OS work on only 2 phones. The same could be said for their decision to put WinMo on the X1 and X2. Anyone remember the "revolutionary" panels? Yeah, that attracted a lot of developers... not.

I was not speaking of Symbian or Windows. I mean them concentrating on Android & their own A2 or A3

SE should make a revamp A2 phones with Android-esque feel. Just like what Samsung did with Bada.

We want Symbian and the keyboard of a P1i!
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA

I know. I was not replying to you.

A2/A3's nice, I'll give that to you. I miss it from my C905...

It was smarter than Symbian in my books.
