If you have a Satio on the Orange network, it has a different home screen with a load of customisable buttons, one of which is phone status which you can press to display battery life in % |

Go install a widget call DeviceInfo v2.0. It will display everything from storage space, firmware version, IMEI and of cos battery status in %. |
