yeah, I'm not worried as mine is unlocked by other means, but it would be nice to have the legal unlock!

The way you've unlocked it isn't illegal, unlocking a phone isn't illegal, yes, it's frowned upon but not illegal

well yeah, perhaps I should have said "unofficial" rather than "illegal"
thanks for correcting me yet again!

Chucked in a Voda sim... Took 2mins and it was unlocked...
The reception and 3G speed is much better then o2...
Need to think which network would be good... possibly try Voda out... on Sim Only deal...
Cheers

but so far, tmob is looking great and just as I remembered before I went to O2 for the iphone

Releasing the PAYG phones is a little more surprising, since once you've paid your £342 there's no guaranteed income after that.

no. you have to have the payg phone for a year before they'll provide the unlock code
edit: have another read at this link that was posted earlier in the topic

Still pretty good, the o2 payg prices were tempting me before, ive got the 3g unlocked running on three. Too good a contract to end so far but this may change my mind! |

I just got what appears to be half a text from O2uk:
"Your iphone is now unlocked. To use a non-O2 sim card in your iphone
Teases! Presumably I just need to plug it into iTunes now with a different sim on board. Can't try it yet.

Naive question - will popping the new sim in end up messing my O2 settings/activation up? I'm only really unlocking for the sake of it at this stage - I'll be putting the O2 sim straight back in for the 5 month remainder of my contract at least...

if it works the same way as it does with the unofficial unlock... when I put my tmob sim in it clears the network settings and I just fill out the APN. When I put the O2 sim back in all the settings reappear

Well I'm now the proud owner of an officially unlocked iPhone
It was as simple as changing the sim temporarily, plugging it into iTunes, waiting a couple of minutes for iTunes to figure out what to do and connect to the store, and then voila - I got a message on screen to say my phone was now unlocked, and press continue to setup and sync it. Looking on the phone, I could see the network settings had cleared (it didn't actually connect to the new network as the sim was an old de-activated one).
At that point I actually disconnected from iTunes and changed the sim back as I didn't want to mess anything up (since I'm stuck with O2 for months anyway) - it went straight back to normal O2 settings and synced as normal. Only I know it's different!
