1) Beejive IM
2) GriP (jailbreak notification handling system)
3) Tweetie / Birdfeed. Toss up between these two great Twitter clients
4) HeyWAY - share your location with other, Push support too
5) IM+ with push - best and most reliable way to push twitter @replies and DM to your phone

I'm sure I can add another five -
Need for Speed Undercover - amazing, immersive driving game - the first iPhone game I've played that really feels like a console game, complete with many levels of play, video cut-scenes, superb graphics etc.
Photoforge - excellent photo editing/art app, has been compared to "photoshop on the iphone" not unreasonably, very cheap last time I looked as well.
Morocco - a very good, free version of the "Othello" board game, which I find extremely addictive.
WunderRadio - an internet radio streaming app, with access to probably the biggest range of stations in the appstore, always seems to work well for me (better than a couple of the free/cheaper ones I tried).
Tioti TV - a comprehensive TV guide, now with push notifications to remind you of your favourite shows..

Although the list could also read as :

5) PS (Picture Safe)
Lovin all the above apps and plenty more besides

I can see IM+ Push for Twitter etc....

Beejive...pretty much the best of the bunch of you dont mind paying the hefty prcie tag.
Its worth it though imo.
