He is not the kids father though. They have been living with their dad while jade was ill. That other prick will be back inside soon. |

I feel so sad for her and no parent should outlive their child, mother's day is never going to hold nice memories for those children
But with her death how many lives of young women has she saved? i would imagine a lot

Before she died I saw on the news one confirmed case of cervical cancer was found in a young woman aged about 21 with a 1 year old son, solely because she read about Jade Goody having it.
She said she'd never given it a second thought, but when she saw about Jade, she decided maybe it would be a good idea to get checked out, and she had it, and luckily it was treated quickly and she's going to be ok.
As for the whole subject of this thread, yes she publicly said she was doing all the insance ammount of publicity solely for her kids, she wanted them to have a good life when she's gone, and understandably she wanted to provide for them when she's not around by giving them a good head start money wise. You think how much bringing up two kids costs over the space of 18-20 years each.
I think the fact that she DID increase awareness by a massive ammount really has shown she did some good in her last days.
And Colin, I have to ask, what on earth do you mean by:
"The thing I don't get it, everyone and I mean everyone has been affected directly as a result by cancer, so surely the profile was high anyway? evidently not."
The profile being high? Ok, so why do millions of people still go undiagnosed every year? Clearly no, the profile is not high enough, never has been and probably never will be.

The real question is, did she raise the profile for selfish or selfless reasons? I believe it was purely to keep her in the spotlight, not so people wouldn't have to go through what she did, but we will never know. Based on her past behaviour i don't think it is beyond her, but it's something we won't know for sure

Since when could posts become invisible? I swear I just explained that she was raising the profile to earn money for her kids, which is selfless really, as well as benefiting others. She's dead, what possible selfish reason could she have that would benefit her?

Raising the awareness for people to go and checked out is probably the most amazing to come out of this.
I was never a fan of hers but admittedly, she has achieved, through her suffering, and in a few weeks, what the NHS spends millions trying to get across to women every year - to go for a check up.
You can't put a value on that now really, can you? Regardless of whether she's dead or alive.
Health Trusts are reporting a huge increase in women booking in for a check up - and a lot of my mates have done so too.

For the sake of potentially saving your life, isn't that worth it?

understandable, but (being serious about this topic), in general one needs to have a little more mature attitude towards doctors/gyno's otherwise perhaps you need to choose a new one if you don't trust your current physician

...and thats what is called procrastination, and that is what can do you most harm! if its important enough, you should make the time

my understanding is that the comparison is that sexually active women, especially those on the pill, have more risk than those who are not
@shelly, yes! of course its worth it (and I'm speaking as a male who is now approaching the danger bracket for prostate cancer and for whom the checks are also not particularly pleasant)
