I wouldn't say turning on the LED flash for night pics is better in every situation, there are uses for higher ISO pics at times as it has been quite handy in occasions when certain colour tones would cause noise. You can get rid of it by switching off the LED flash but steady hands is a pre-requisite for this method. I've done a lot of flash tests on my W902 but never did it strike me as an 'ingenious' invention. If anything, the LED flash itself is crappy and useless especially for a "Cybershot" branded phone. You're a funny dude plank.

thanks for all replys.

the ONLY thing i wanted to show was the difference between LED-flash and no LED-flash outdoor with this cellphone.
(im not interested if the flash lights up 20cm, 1m or 2000m), i just show what a better quality you get IF you use the flash outdoor in right environments...thats all.

(and yes mode, you have a point, my last ISO-500 night picture is taken without flash, and it became better)

over and out

So why not add a mode to a custom driver that tricks the phone into thinking the flash is on to get the requires ISO, then we save battery and have warmer images.

Because if you had access to the source of the actual driver and not just the parameter tuning file people call a driver here at Esato, then there would be much more customizing. For one, I'd buy the C902 and then make noise reduction and sharpening adjustable in the camera UI.

Yes, but it will never happen unless someone at SE leaks the source code.

Those cheeky bastards

So then planks tip is not too bad, leave the flash on for warmer pictures due to trickign the phone into using different settings that can not be obtained by driving modification.

Where are the reverse engineering Russians when you need them

settings that can not be obtained by driving modification

this it possible and it's very easy to do as usual problem is where to put "new function on/off" without creating all this not-very-legible-for-everyone-supermode-additional-functionality?

I for one would not mind editing the configuration myself, if I know what to change. It is a bit confusing for newbies like myself that some people say that it can not be done and others say it can be done. If the "experts" can not agree, where does that leave us newbies?

I guess that Abu didn't said 'impossible with driver' but 'more fun with software modding'. so, we both have right

I meant adding functions like adjustable NR and sharpening. You can only change whatever is exposed in camdriver0.dat (which is only a calibration file read by the actual camera driver). If noise reduction is not adjustable in camdriver0.dat then you need to modify the driver.

well, yes it works, for example CHDK team did great work with Canon Powershots. however for them things are less complicated. in cameraphone world going into firmware with fat modifications is too much but I assume we still are talking about theory not practice. sure, new and big possibilities but also disproportion between time/effort and result

Can we change the thread title to reflect this then?

I think that 'genius' is maybe, just maybe a little bit over-exaggerated?
