I always think the first thin phone was made by Ericsson. Motorola is second. When every manufacturer back then was busy making huge bricks Ericsson broke with the norm and unleashed the beautifully thin T28 which to me is the beginning of it all. Remember it with the ultra thin battery? I'm sure it is still as thin or slightly thinner than the V3 'closed'.

If we're talking all-time "icons" then probably:
Nokia 3210 - don't laugh, in its day it really defined the whole idea of popular, affordable, stylish mobile phones. I never had one, never wanted one, but (at the time) you couldn't avoid its impact. Those covers were EVERYWHERE. Closely followed by the 3310 which followed on in a similar mode but was even more successful if anything.
Ericsson T28 - no snap on covers there, but absolutely stunning. The button for the flip was just brilliant, sadly never repeated. My first Ericsson, and the only reason I gave SE a chance.
Sony Ericsson P800 - such an important phone in many ways, Steve Jobs loved it, it launched UIQ to what seemed at the time to be a glittering future and was so far ahead of the competition that SE barely changed it for the P900 or the P910. SE's finest hour, shame they squandered it all after that.
Motorola V3 - just love the design. I bought my wife one, she hated it (texting was a nightmare) but I secretly wished my own phone looked so good.
iPhone 3G - love it or hate it, its irrelevant, only a fool would deny the effect it's had. Personally I love it, and can't wait to see what's coming next.

3. NOKIA N82
4. BlackBerry Bold
5. HTC Touch HD
All of them except i'd put the C905 inplace of the N82 cos i love the camera and the features execpt it tends to crash alot and what not, but that can be expected form all SE phones |

What the hell! Might as well include my list.
1. Ericsson T28
2. Siemens SL-45
3. SE P800
4. Nokia N 95
5. Iphone
The Iphone came in and changed how we look at touchscreen phone. Yes, it may not be all bells and whistles but it sure revolutionised touchscreen technology. If a new boy or girl comes in and teaches the big ones with plenty experience in that field a lesson like the Iphone did then they deserve to be in that list. |
